Ridgewood NJ, once again, the Police Unity Tour is underway, marking its 27th year of honoring fallen law enforcement officers. This year, Ridgewood Police Officer Bigos and Sgt. McKeon have joined a few thousand riders and support staff on their journey to Washington D.C. and the Law Enforcement Memorial.

The primary purpose of the Police Unity Tour is to raise awareness of Law Enforcement Officers killed in the line of duty.

The Police Unity Tour, with its poignant motto “We Ride For Those Who Died,” raises money for the memorial and museum in Washington. This annual event is more than just a bike ride; it is a powerful tribute to those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.

Wind, rain, and 270 miles of biking become all worth it when our dedicated officers reach the Law Enforcement Officer’s Memorial. Their arrival is met with heartfelt greetings from members of public safety and the families of fallen officers from across the country. The sight of officers riding through the memorial is a poignant reminder of the unity and strength within the law enforcement community.

This year, Officer Bigos and Sgt. McKeon from the Ridgewood Police Department participated in the Tour, culminating in a solemn candlelight vigil on the National Mall. During the vigil, the names of 282 fallen police officers were read aloud, each name echoing the bravery and dedication of those who lost their lives serving their communities. These names have now been inscribed on the Memorial, which stands as a testament to more than 23,000 members of law enforcement who have died in the line of duty.

The Police Unity Tour is a deeply moving event that not only raises funds but also fosters a sense of solidarity and remembrance. It is a journey that honors the heroes who have fallen and supports the families and colleagues they left behind. As Officer Bigos and Sgt. McKeon, along with their fellow riders, continue this annual tradition, they remind us all of the sacrifices made by law enforcement officers every day.

“We Ride For Those Who Died” is more than a slogan; it is a pledge to never forget the brave men and women who have laid down their lives for the safety of others. The Police Unity Tour is a powerful tribute to their legacy and a beacon of hope and unity for the entire law enforcement community.
