Hackensack NJ, The City of Hackensack regretfully announces that City Manager Ted Ehrenburg passed away last night. Hired in 2016, Ehrenburg’s steady and experienced leadership brought a level of professionalism and competence to city government that has benefitted all residents. Mayor John Labrosse has ordered that city flags will be flown at half mast in Ehrenburg’s honor and the City Council meeting scheduled for April 6th will be postponed to a later date.
“This is a shocking and terrible loss for our city and my thoughts and prayers are with Ted’s family during this trying time as they must confront a truly incalculable loss,” said Mayor Labrosse. “Ted Ehrenburg will be remembered as a consummate professional and someone who truly cared about making our city a better place each and every day he came to City Hall, and he will be greatly missed. The City Council and I will be announcing steps in the coming days to ensure that city services continue to be delivered without interruption and on how we plan to fill the City Manager role moving forward.”
During his time in Hackensack, Ehrenburg effectively managed city operations and employees while also overseeing Hackensack’s ongoing rebirth with its Downtown Redevelopment plan. He implemented several initiatives designed to make city government more efficient and also made a point to personally address resident concerns, no matter how big or small. Prior to his time in Hackensack, Ted worked as a municipal Business Administrator in Bloomfield and Bloomingdale and previously served as Chief of Police in Washington Township in Morris County, capping a 28-year law enforcement career.
