Deer seem to have become public enemy number one for some Village home owners . Deer can carry and transmit Lyme disease, also known as Lyme borreliosis, is a vector-borne disease caused by the Borrelia bacterium, which is spread by ticks in the genus Ixodes. The most common sign of infection is an expanding red rash, known as erythema migrans, which appears at the site of the tick bite about a week afterwards. The rash is typically neither itchy nor painful.

  1. OK, so this will start the next animal lover-animal “hater” bar fight.

And the deer will laugh and go on munching.

  2. That deer cause problems it is clear, but using Lyme disease as a main factor is bs. How many people in RW and surrounding areas have been infected with Lyme via deer ticks in this area? Probably none in the last decade.
Personally I have a love-hate relationship with deer but I use a lot of tricks to keep them off my plants and trees. You can kill half the population and yet you’d still incur damage by the rest. And don’t forget any green area that disappears for building projects, deforestation (which is happening right in town and surroundings) will bring the animals closer to you.

    1. Decades??? WTF are you talking about? I’m in RW and was infected with Lyme disease 6 years ago. People in NJ suburbs get Lyme disease from ticks transported by local animals regularly. That’s why it’s important to do a tick check of you are in an area which has a high deer population, which are many in NJ.

The point that’s being missed is that ticks are common on rodents, which then transfer to deer. Yet no one wants to deal with the rodent population.

Also, there was, for a short time, a Lyme vaccine, but it proved unprofitable by the maker. A government funded vaccine would go a long way in helping us stay safer.

      1. Isn’t Calling it Lyme Disease RACIST, like calling COVID the Wuhan Virus???

That’s what they taught me in school.

      2. So you had Lyme and are still alive but you still want a vaccine for it. It would be awesome to decorate that FB profile photo with a “I got my Lyme vaccine today”. The Covid one got old.

  3. more hunting would help
