>Last week The Ridgewood News featured a ‘thank you” to the Rec Dept for use of town fields for the recently completed PONY U17 softball qualifying tournament ,a job well done ,but it seems interesting to the fly that there was time to coordinate this boondoggle but no time to pay the kids who worked long hours umping the final month of the Rec season.

>My son is wondering why he hasn’t been paid too.
>That’s rich. Thanking someone for letting you use what you’ve already paid for.
Only in Ridgewood, folks, does sucking up get such public praise.
>I am not surprised that the kids who umpired in June have still not been paid. Gary Muzio, RBSA president (for life?)umpires many RBSA games during the season. He chooses when he will umpire and presumably tells the treasurer how much to pay him. I’m sure he has been paid.
>a) Are you stating that the Umps were supposed to get paid, but for some super-secret reason, did not?
b) Do we really care if someone wrote a warm and fuzzy thank you note in the Village News? If they were happy, had a nice tourney, etc… Great. Who cares?
Did this cost me any money as a taxpayer? If not, I’d hardly call it a boondoggle.
Lets try not to hate everyone at once.

sorry PJ I cant believe anyone in Ridgewood is such a total a**hole ,you’re defending not paying the kids you are a real jerk
>a) Are you stating that the Umps were supposed to get paid, but for some super-secret reason, did not?

Pj I cant believe my eyes this idiot thinks its ok not to pay people …when did this kind of garbage movve into town ?
>My kids both ump’d the regular rec season, which I believe started in April/May.
While both are owed nearly $200 each, neither has seen a dime. Maybe the RBSA is collecting interest on the money for as long as possible.
They check the mail DAILY. They’re just kids, so what can they do?
I guess some people really don’t care if kids don’t get paid like that previous cantankerous poster. Let’s add the RBSA trustees and supremo president for life to the list.
>I am sure the RBSA President For Life gets paid when HE umpires…he picks the games he wants to umpire and officiates without the protection of ASA insurance.
>My brother and I both umpired in the regular season. We sent our forms in the beginning of June and we were supposed to get our checks in the beginning of July. Yet it is the end of July and tomorrow will be August. Did someone steal money from the RBSA again?
>) Are you stating that the Umps were supposed to get paid, but for some super-secret reason, did not?
another ridgewood arse kiss ,no the fly was saying the kids should be paid period ,the “super-secret reason” is some people in town are real a**holes ,but the bigger a**holes are the people who defend this
>Im an umpire in ridgewood too and yet I have not seen a thing from the RBSA telling me when I will get my money or even an apology let alone a check.
>I umpired too and I was just wondering if the “RBSA President for life” was holding our checks for some odd reason.
>The issue of paying the Umps is a stand-alone one. If kids (and I guess adults) didnt get paid, then lets find out why. I’d expect a statement and immediate correction from the RBSA Board, despite the insulting comments from some of your posters.
I have kids who participated in this tourney and it was wonderful.
This is the first I have heard about umpires not getting paid.
>despite the insulting comments …came because some poster defended NOT PAYING THE KIDS
that is not cool at all

WHERE is this post defending NOT paying the umpires? Seems the question was two-fold: a) To define if they really hadnt been paid and if it was part of a darker plot against mankind and b) Who cares if some parent writes a letter to the Ridgewood News?
We ALL want the umpires to get paid. This is the first I’ve heard of it, so lets give the RBSA a chance to correct the problem.

this is the jerk trying to lie about not paying the kids and this is the guy that pissed everyone off and you sound like the same jerk trying to cover it up
>Dear RBSA:
PAY THE UMPIRES!!! The guy in charge of paying them is probably off on a pricey vacation this summer while our kids wait to be paid for their hard work. What a scrooge!
>I don’t know if the adult umpires got paid, since they are official ASA umps. All I know is that my daughter took the class in March and was told she would get paid. Her April/May games were paid at then end of June. She has not seen her money for the June games even though the paperwork was handed in by June 2.
>dan the man sounds very bitter. Is this about umpires or about you ot making the travel team back in 7th grade?
Get over it, danny boy.
Maybe try platform shoes. You’ll look taller to the rest of us.
>dan the man sounds very bitter. …I cannot believe there is another low life willing to support NOT PAYING THE KIDS
BTW perhaps Dan didnt have his mommy fix things for him to get on the team
>12:40 PM
“We ALL want the umpires to get paid. This is the first I’ve heard of it, so lets give the RBSA a chance to correct the problem.”
The President speaks?
I didn’t see the reference in PJ’s question to “part of a darker plot against mankind.”
As for “boondoggle,” I would hardly call it that PJ.
But to the point, the kids should have been paid ages ago.
Let’s get to it RBSA.
>Dan pays a lot of taxes in this village. More than most of us. So,knock off the cheap shots.
He is right. Pay the children.
>You guys are nuts. If you were to read carefully you would see that NO ONE defended not paying the kids. That person simply asked for clarification. The way the original post was written, it wasn’t clear if we were talking about official pay for a job done, or if there was perhaps an expectation of payment but not a real “job.” Not everyone is familiar with the way umping works in the RBSA… it is clear now that these were kids hired to do a real job, which I presume means they have some sort of contract or agreement in writing, and it should not be hard for them to follow-up and demand payment. Especially if this is now public and getting attention.
The criticism was for the second part…about thanking the parks and rec for their help with the tourney. Why is that so wrong? Why a) call the tournament a “boondoggle” when it appears to have been well-run and well-attended; and b) why criticize someone for thanking the parks and rec dept in a letter to the editor?
The point is — one has nothing to do with the other.
People on this blog are SO ready to jump on the bandwagon and vent their agression at god-knows-what by latching on to any rumor or mis-read comment!
>I am not getting why some of you somehow think it might just be ok to rip off a bunch of kids ? I hope it is just an oversite but the defenders of not paying kids sound like a bunch real dirt bags ,Dan is right !!!
>I think the RBSA should pay the umpires with interest.
>You guys are nuts. If you were to read carefully you would see that NO ONE defended not paying the kids….yea right…. guess you couldnt get away with it could you ,good try now cut the crap and do the right thing

Who types this stuff? Get away with WHAT???
1:29pm is exactly right. Some of you need to order the decaf….
>Bottom line: pay the umpires. No excuses.
>You know who you are you clowns tried to twist around what the fly said to justify not paying the Kids, now like the big cowards you are you backing down,I think is absolutely disgusting that anyone in this town thinks its ok to try to rip off a bunch of kids .Perhaps its just an oversight that the umps have not been paid but the “big men” who make excuses for not paying kids do not belong in this community .
>Dan, your right! Thank you for all those people that need to drink decaf. I umpired and I think I deserve my money (its been too long). I bet any other town would have paid their employees immeaditly.
>No way it was an oversight. No wonder kids have difficulty respecting their elders.
>Kids who umpired games in June have not been paid. The RBSA has been very slow to pay the kids.
No one ever suggested that the kids should not be paid, that’s just silly.
The RBSA is corrupt and the fish rots from the head, however, the non-payment of little umpires probably stems from incompetence, not corruption
>Dan is right! Dan for RBSA President! Where can I vote???
>Dan at the RBSA! What a great idea. Where can I vote too?
Why stop there, I’ll vote Dan to run the town and the schools.
I’m not kidding.
Dan you’ve kept the town sane in your own gentle way.
Thanks!
>Who in the heck is Dan the man?
Dan Akroyd?
Dan DeVito?
Dan Bonaduce?
Let me know so I can vote for him.
>Who in the heck is Dan the man?

just pay the kids and cut the crap bud..

All bark. What WOULD we all do without you?
>Yes, pay them – with a late fee attached. If the RSBA needs help, just post it here and I’ll send in something to help defray the cost. Those kids do a heck of a job! They even know how to handle the many self-important coaches. It’s fun to watch.
>All bark. …I cant believe that at this late hour you are still defending not paying kids ? whats wrong with you did your mother drop you when you were a baby ?
>Dan Rather?
>For gods’ sake…no one said not to pay the kids! Drop it, you freaks! Yes, the kids should be paid. Of course. But this has nothing to do with that tournament.
This must be WILLFUL obstinance, because I can’t believe there are THIS many stupid people around.
Honestly, I just think some of you have fun being that guy in the back of the crowd who yells “Yeah, what he said!”
>For gods’ sake…stop the bs drama and pay the kids
>I’m running out of Dan the man names. Come on, help me out here.
Dan Glover?
Dan Baldwin?
Dan Marino?
Dapper Dan?
Dan Craig (oohh…hunky 007)?
>The point of the post was that the a great deal of time was taken to arrange the tournament and make sure every detail that was public was perfect.
The behind the scenes detail of paying children was ignored and not prioritized. This PJ assumes was because it was not something obviously seen from the outside or the press.
That’s the boondoggle…not the parents letter of thank you.
The parent wasn’t aware of that the umps where being taken advantage of.
>Excuse me but WHY HAVEN’T THE KIDS BEEN PAID?
>THIS IS ALL VERY FUNNY. IF YOU WERE THE LEAST BIT INFORMED YOU WOULD BE DANGEROUS. THE TOURNAMENT DIDN’T COST RIDGEWOOD ANY $, THE RBSA PRESIDENTS TERM IS LIMITED AND HE DOESN’T UMPIRE BECA– USE HE IS USUALLY DONATING HIS TIME AS A VOLUNTEER COACH, THE KIDS GET PAID AS LONG AS THEY SUBMIT THEIR FORMS ON TIME(WHICH USUALLY DOESN’T HAPPEN). WHY CAN’T WE ALL JUST RELAX AND GET ALONG?
>Please post on PJ’s blog when the checks have been mailed out. Thank you.
>Hey, you know Rodney King?
>11:04
The president DOES umpire and my child did submit the forms on time. It is August 1 and no check has been received. Maybe YOU need to be informed!!!
