Ridgewood NJ, the Ridgewood Irish Dancers brought a burst of energy to the cloudy Bergen County Saint Patrick’s Day parade last Sunday in Bergenfield, before heading to Duffy’s in Paterson as part of their packed March schedule.
Ashling Daly-Stanek, now the lead instructor of the dance program for the past three years, reflected on the busy season, transitioning from a student to a teacher. “This is our busiest season, but it’s funny thinking back to when I was a dancer what we considered busy,” she shared with FOX 5 after the parade.
Following Daly-Stanek and the girls, we witnessed just a glimpse of their 50 parades and performances scheduled over the next few weeks. At Duffy’s Family Day, an unofficial alumni event, they showcased their hard work.
Amy McLaughlin, mother of a former dancer and volunteer, praised Daly-Stanek’s dedication, saying, “Somehow she found it in herself to pull everyone along with her, not only in keeping her family moving forward, but to keep the business going.”
For Daly-Stanek, the dance company is not just about maintaining, but also honoring her late mother and coach, Susan Daley-Stanek. “When I lost mom, I just wanted to be at the studio. That’s where I wanted to be. And I couldn’t imagine losing her and the studio and that community. That just would’ve been too much,” she expressed.
As they prepare for the CRDM Irish Dance World Championships in April, Daly-Stanek ensures that each performance serves as valuable training for the seven dancers heading to Dublin. “I have 7 dancers heading off to the world championships in Dublin. This is my 3rd year bringing dancers over, so make sure they know every opportunity to dance they’re using for training,” she emphasized.
In the midst of their rigorous preparations, they continue to spread joy and heritage through every tap, one performance at a time.
