Allendale NJ,   the borough  of Allendale  is asking residents in the upcoming election to consider selling its water system to Suez Water for $18 million to improve its aging system. The Sale of the Allendale Water System to SUEZ for $18 Million will be put to referendum on the November 2, 2021 General Election Ballot.

According the borough website Allendale does not have the expertise or resources to continue to operate the system given ever- evolving compliance and water quality regulations. Allendale’s water infrastructure is
aging and major investments in treatment systems must be made to remain in compliance with safe drinking water standards. The cost of these infrastructure investments will lead to
significant rate increases for our residents.

Faced with the increasing costs and complexity of operating the Borough’s water system, the Allendale Water Committee began considering a sale to an experienced water company as well
as several other options beginning in 2019. The decision was made to sell the system to a water company with the experience and financial resources to maintain, operate and rehabilitate the
system. SUEZ, which has been a partner with Allendale for two decades, was the high bidder.

Suez North America, founded as the Hackensack Water Company in 1869 and later named United Water, is an American water service company headquartered in Paramus, New Jersey. It owns and operates 16 water and waste water utilities, and operates 90 municipal water and waste water systems through public-private partnerships and contract agreements.

SUEZ it self  was recently purchased  by Veolia and the Consortium of investors consisting of Meridiam, GIP and CDC/CNP Assurances and the completion of the consultation process of the relevant works councils of SUEZ group, Veolia, Suez and the Consortium of investors entered into a purchase agreement with terms and conditions in line with what was announced on 29 June.

  1. Ridgewood Water should get the hint and sell. Time to leave the utility business and fire the inept employees in patronage positions.

  2. 18 million for Allendale that’s one town, can you imagine what Ridgewood water is worth. Down the road they’re going to have to sell because they will never be able to keep up with government rules and regulations. They will be squeezed politically from the top.

  3. How about Ridgewood water utility purchasing Allendale water. If it’s such a great investment. And the villages expanding. Just a thought

  4. We see the construction being done on the water utility offices next to the library. Let’s go get them out of Village Walk they are their own entity. They have nothing to do with the village all those employees are utility workers. And they should have their own Labor contract. And they should not have municipal plates on those vehicles they are the utility Vehicles.

  5. We would love to see if the village put in a bid.
