Ridgewood NJ, a tree toppled over on John Street between East Ridgewood Avenue and Wyndemere Avenue were blocked until the fallen tree was cleared. The Ridgewood Police cordoned off the area . No Injuries reported .

  1. Old trees get older.
    They don’t live forever.
    Since we now get a $500 fine to cut them down, more people will just let them fall.
    New stupid ordinances have consequences.

    1. Many of these trees were planted when the local towns were growing, and large numbers of them are reaching end of life due to age, or insects or whatever.

      Many of them are hollowed out but still have decent vascular systems and so appear to be healthy. We had one of these, and when it went down it took another old but healthy tree with it.

  2. I recently paid almost $5,000 to have a very old maple taken down. It broke my heart but it was hollow and rotted starting at the bottom and leaning heavily over the garage. Of course homeowner’s insurance isn’t interested unless it actually falls and damages something. Because my tree expert had written on his estimate that it was a hazardous situation, I was able to obtain a permit without paying a fee.
