GLEN ROCK, NJ — When seconds count, their voices are the first line of defense. While National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week (April 13–19) has come to a close, the recognition of our local heroes at Northwest Bergen Central Dispatch (NWBCD) continues year-round.
Operating behind the scenes 24/7, 365 days a year, these dedicated professionals serve as the vital link between citizens in distress and the emergency responders who rush to their aid.
Serving 200,000 Residents Across 65 Square Miles
What started as a small partnership between three municipalities has evolved into a powerhouse of regional safety. Today, Northwest Bergen Central Dispatch acts as the 9-1-1 Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) for an expansive network of 14 North Jersey communities.
From Glen Rock to Rutherford, the NWBCD team manages emergency and non-emergency calls for a massive service area, including:
-
The Service Corridor: Franklin Lakes, Glen Rock, Montvale, New Milford, Oakland, Old Tappan, Oradell, Park Ridge, Ridgewood, River Edge, River Vale, Rutherford, Waldwick, Washington Township, and Woodcliff Lake.
Precision Under Pressure
The role of a dispatcher is far more than just answering phones. It is a demanding, high-stakes career that requires gathering critical data with precision, accuracy, and speed. By relaying vital information to police, fire, and EMS crews, dispatchers ensure that our local responders can provide the highest level of professional service the moment they arrive on the scene.
“You may not see them, but they are always there—ensuring the safety of 200,000 residents across Bergen County.”
A Commitment to Regional Excellence
NWBCD exists to provide a reliable, consolidated communication hub. By pooling resources across these 14 municipalities, the center provides a more effective and technologically advanced means of summoning public safety assistance than any single town could do alone.
As we look back on Dispatcher Appreciation Week, we invite the community to take a moment and thank these “invisible first responders.” Their calm voices in the middle of a storm truly save lives.
