Ridgewood NJ, with one failed initiative after another , the Village of Ridgewood Council puts pedestrian safety back on the front burner . Thanks to Councilwoman Lorraine Reynolds who championed the transfer of $500,000 designated for repairs to the village’s historic Zabriskie-Schedler house toward an estimated $1 million sidewalk project , known as the West Glen Avenue sidewalk installation safety initiative at the budget meeting in May, Reynolds argued that the historic home repairs would be stalled by lawsuits and the money should be put to more immediate use on “safety projects.”

The West Glen Avenue sidewalk installation safety initiative was started by the previous Village administration under Mayor Knudsen and halted by the currently council majority of Mayor Paul Vagianos, Deputy Mayor Pamela R. Perron, Councilmember Evan Weitz and Councilmember Siobhan Winograd . Over the years the Ridgewood blog has reported on numerous motor vehicle accidents on West Glen  and the immediate area. Mayor Vagianos asked to have blueprints done for the intersection as soon as possible.

  1. Yes this is more important right now, safety first. They should be approved and done before school starts.

  2. Thank you Councilwoman Reynolds!

  3. Lorraine is the only sane one up there. Thanks Ms. Reynolds.

  4. That sidewalk in the pic looks stoopid.

It ends at the tree ?

So in order to pick up the next section of sidewalk I have to walk on Glen Avenue ?

  5. This whole Glen Ave sidewalk debacle was pure EGO.
The plan and the money was in place, the project was started.
The current VC put the brakes on simply because it wasn’t their plan, out of pure spite.

Now, they are willing to move forward so that they look like hero’s.

    Thank goodness for Ms. Reynolds.
But how long can one person hold off the self serving agenda driven dais we have now?

  6. Who gives a shit you started came up with it who’s idea it was just finish the damn thing already. What are we talking about, it’s a sidewalk finish it holy shit. I’m sure we could find many contractors. That can finish that in no time.

  7. Obviously this should be finished. Long overdue. Same for the section of Monroe from Morningside to Fairmount

  8. The Mayor and Majority Block Voting Council initially took the money away and almost had to furlough workers because they were laser focused on Schedler and not the safety projects like WG sidewalks and the footbridge. When the light was shown on 2 kids getting hit by cars, the footbridge conversations started again and WG sidewalk neighbor’s have been pressuring the Village, rightly so, to get things moving. So they did have the funds. Shame on them that a ballfield is more important than safety. You don’t get a pat on the back because you were pressured to re-allocate the funds that were there in the first place. Lorraine is a hero though in my book because she is always about doing what is right, while the other idiots are trying to please the sports community.
