The Incident: A Close Call on Spring Avenue

The driver of an older model BMW 4-door sedan was traveling along Spring Avenue when the vehicle suddenly veered off the roadway. In a series of rapid events, the sedan:

  • Jumped the curb.

  • Traversed the sidewalk.

  • Crashed through a residential fence.

Despite the significant damage to the vehicle, which required a flatbed tow truck to remove it from the scene, the outcome was nothing short of miraculous.

A Heartwarming Survival

The most important takeaway from the crash? Safety. Both the driver and their pet, who was in the car at the time of the collision, were assessed at the scene and found to be completely uninjured.

The Ridgewood Police Department Patrol Division arrived quickly to secure the area and investigate the cause of the accident. Demonstrating the community-focused spirit of our local law enforcement, officers went the extra mile by personally transporting the driver and their pet back to their nearby residence.

Road Safety Reminder

While the cause of the jump remains under investigation by the Ridgewood PD, this incident serves as a stark reminder of how quickly things can go wrong on local roads. We are thankful that this Thursday afternoon didn’t end in tragedy for this local resident and their furry companion.

  1. I hope it was the sudden appearance of a child or animal (deer? not usually in the afternoon) that caused the car to go off the road, not texting or another such distraction.

It would be nice to get the full story later.

  2. I am surprised there are not more accidents due to pets on driver’s laps.
Idiots who let their dog ride with head in the wind outside the windows risk blinding the dog if a bee hits their face.
Law requires a restraint to seatbelts to prevent animal from becoming a missle launched through the windshield in the event of an accident.
No surprise that nobody here ‘thinks’ proactively
