Ridgewood NJ, a multi-alarm, early Thursday afternoon, 05/04, rendered a 2-family home located in the 200 block of Walton Street, in Ridgewood uninhabitable. The fire reportedly began in the attic, and may have spread to portions of the building’s second floor. Ridgewood firefighters had the blaze under control within 30 minutes of their arrival on site. Firefighters from Ho-Ho-Kus Fire Department assisted at the scene. All occupants of the home had safely evacuated prior to the arrival of Ridgewood police officers, Ridgewood firefighters and Ridgewood Emergency Services ; no injuries were reported.
A Village of Ridgewood official who spoke on the condition of anonymity indicated that construction work was taking place in the home at the time the blaze broke out, but the contractor had not been using any tools/torches likely to ignite a fire.
