Washington DC, it’s well known that the people who really know what’s going on in Congress are often the staff, not the members. That’s why Punch Bowl News’ fresh poll of senior Capitol Hill aides is intriguing.
The new poll should embolden NJ GOP .
Less than 50% of Democratic aides think Congress will hike the capital gains tax to pay for an infrastructure package.
99% of Republicans say their boss thinks unemployment benefits hurt the labor market; but only 42% of Democrats feel the same way.
94% of Republicans say their boss is worried about inflation. But only 15% of Democrats agree.
Talk about Thomas Sowell’s “conflict of visions.”
As for 2022, 73% of Punchbowl respondents believe Republicans will likely control the House after the 2022 midterms. Among Democratic top aides, only the barest majority (52%) think their party will keep control.
In the Senate, the response is flipped:
75% of respondents say that Democrats will keep control of the Senate, with 86% of Democrats in agreement, along with 63% of Republicans.
