Sometimes a speech is just a speech. And sometimes it heralds the prospect of a great national revival.
Donald Trump gave the best speech of his short political life last night, and it had nothing to do with grand oratory. He was thoroughly presidential, speaking plainly and yet masterfully in projecting an optimistic vision of the America he aims to build.
It is a vision so optimistic and encompassing that even steaming Democrats had to join boisterous Republicans in the applause at times.
Anything you could possibly want, he served it up in a feast of ideas and promises. Trump was at turns resolute, as when he talked about the “broken promises” of ObamaCare.
And he never once mentioned the media or fake news. Hallelujah!
His speech was well written, and well delivered, chock full of initiatives and full of changes in mood.
Trump was aggressive when he wondered how Democrats opposed to border control would feel if they talked to an American who lost his job and maybe a loved one because of an illegal immigrant.
He showed flashes of humor and talked with compassion about the power of school choice to save children from failing schools while recounting the story of a young woman in the audience. She was one of several nonwhites he singled out in a display of diversity that most Dems couldn’t resist.

Great and inspiring speech. I was very impressed he didn’t get into childish complaints and most importantly he didn’t get rattled by democrats indifference. I think democrats couldn’t believe what they were hearing. If he can stay away from Twitter and totally ignore the liberal media it will be perfect but maybe that’s too much to ask.
Trump is my president. After this speech Obama and Bush look so small compared to him.
I am dumbfounded that anyone would still cheer anything stated by this narcissistic, inexperienced liar. Folks, ye who still believe are going to be just as miserable as the rest of us when he destroys the democratic fabric of the country and the air we breathe, the water we drink, and much more.
The bar is so low that just following the script is a success.
He is not a visionary and he is not inspirational. This speech does not erase all the crazy things he said and tweeted in the last year.
But we know that he can read.
Stock market up 304 points on Wednesday…
1:18 you forgot to mention pushing Grandma off the cliff.
wow 1:18… just wow.
get out. read more. educate yourself.
He will never be remembered ar a visionary and orator. People have set the bar so low that just sticking to the script is a victory.
His speeches have been pegged to a sixth grade level. May sound brilliant to his base but to the majority of Americans he sounds like someone hawking nonstick pans.
sorry that still 2 grades higher than Obuma
Stock market soaring, billions promised for infrastructure, messages for unity abound etc etc and the sore losers of the left still are mad. They can’t even believe their beloved media CNN that showed polls soaring for Trump after the speech. Honestly I enjoy it and I certainly hope that a cure is found soon for the extreme liberals who just for the hate of Trump are willing to to go lower than never seen before. What can you expect from people who are afraid to whisper “Extreme Islamic terrorism” in their bedrooms, who are more concerned about feelings of some barbarians on the other side of the globe than the security and well being of their fellow Americans.
Oh, James. Did you really just say that? You, my friend, act like you’re in Kindergarten.
Kindergarten comment gets a kindergarten response
1. I think it’s apparent by now (unless you’ve lived in a cave since Ronald Reagan was elected President) that stock market surges don’t benefit the lower classes.
The wealth stays at the top, thanks to conservative and neo-liberal lawmakers who have controlled Washington since the early 80’s.
2. Decades of US and US-backed military intervention are what created these militant, Muslim extremist barbarians.
3. CNN kept Donald Trump relevant only because he was phenomenal for their ratings. If they were not so concerned with ad revenue, they could have ruined Trump’s bid during the primaries– simply by doing some actual investigative journalism and exposing his crookery and his womanizing to Middle America.
4. Trump has already proved he duped his voter base and used them for votes. Just look at his cabinet full of Wall Street insiders. In other words, if you are not wealthy and you support Trump, you are a pawn- a dupe. And you have only made your overall day-to-day quality of life worse for yourself.
Comrade, guess you don’t have any retirement savings ?
