Teaneck NJ, an unauthorized man entered Teaneck High School during a March 12 school board meeting and remained inside overnight, setting off two alarms before leaving in the early morning hours.
Burglary and Theft Charges Filed Against Suspect
The Teaneck Police Department announced Thursday that burglary and theft charges have been filed against Ryon Reid, 37, who is believed to be homeless with a last known address in the township. Police said Reid remains at large and have urged the public to report any information on his whereabouts.
How the Incident Unfolded
📌 March 12, 8:45 PM – Reid entered Teaneck High School during the ongoing school board meeting.
📌 Overnight Hours – He triggered two alarms at 12:42 AM and 1:36 AM, prompting responses from Teaneck police. However, officers found the building secure with no signs of forced entry.
📌 March 13, 5:42 AM – Security footage shows Reid leaving the school with multiple bags.
Superintendent Andre Spencer reassured parents that there were no signs of vandalism and that a safety officer was monitoring the premises during the meeting.
“At no time was there any threat or harm to anyone in the building,” Spencer said.
Surveillance Video Raises Questions
Former Councilman Keith Kaplan shared security footage showing the man wandering hallways in a blue sweatshirt, cap, and long overcoat, carrying multiple bags.
Kaplan claimed that several rooms had been vandalized, but Spencer denied these allegations. A police report noted that staff members later found belongings moved and at least one reusable shopping bag missing.
Security Concerns Amid Lawsuit Against Superintendent
The incident comes just days after Teaneck High School Safety Director Paul Morgan filed a lawsuit against Superintendent Spencer and the school district on March 14.
📌 Morgan’s lawsuit alleges that budget cuts ordered by Spencer weakened school security by:
✔️ Eliminating multiple positions in the safety department
✔️ Reducing officer hours
✔️ Removing safety officers from all elementary schools
📌 Morgan also claims that his salary was reduced by $26,000 and that his tuition reimbursement was eliminated in retaliation for raising concerns about school safety.
