Ridgewood NJ, WFAN recently updated their phone number for callers, moving from the long-used 877-337-6666 to a new 888-808-1019 number. This change, made just over a week ago, led to an unexpected and heartwarming incident on-air this morning during the show hosted by Gregg Giannotti and Boomer Esiason.

A woman named Joan from Ridgewood, New Jersey, dialed in, but she wasn’t there to talk sports. Joan’s call wasn’t about the Rangers’ season end or the Mets’ struggles. Instead, she had a very different kind of problem.

“I’m not doing well; I need somebody over here and I called this 888 number and somebody picked up,” Joan said. Gio confirmed the number and inquired about her expectations. “I didn’t know, I was just hoping someone would pick up the telephone,” Joan replied.

Producer Al Dukes stepped in, explaining, “When I spoke with Joan, she told me she was having issues with her dryer, her La-Z-Boy, and her telephone.”

A puzzled Joan added, “How do I call somebody on my remote?” which left Esiason baffled. Joan continued, “I turned over the darn thing myself, don’t ask me how this happened in my sleep.”

Giannotti clarified, “You slept-walk and turned a La-Z-Boy upside down?”

Trying to piece it together, Giannotti asked Dukes why Joan dialed their number. Dukes explained, “She said she was calling from a very old phone, trying to get help, and no one could hear her. I told her she had called a sports station, and she said, ‘I don’t care, put me through to someone who can help me.’ So, I took her number and address and contacted the Ridgewood, New Jersey Police Department, explained the situation, and they agreed to check on her.”

Later, an update on Joan’s situation was posted on social media. Giannotti shared, “We got an update. Al did call the police department there in Ridgewood. Joan did get a visit, a wellness check.”

Dukes added, “A police officer went over and checked on Joan and actually fixed some of her issues. She had dead batteries in her remote control, and he was able to get the La-Z-Boy upright.”

“He fixed the dryer as well, so he fixed all three things,” Giannotti noted. “It all came together, Joan is doing okay. Her son should be back today, according to the officer. It’s really funny; she called WFAN to get those three things fixed, and she got those three things fixed.”

In true content creator fashion, the video concluded with a humorous promo, encouraging listeners needing repairs to call the station. As Dukes quipped, “Call BT and Sal.”
