Newark NJ, United has announced that they will cut 12% of its domestic daily flights out of Newark Liberty Airport starting today July 1st. According to a recent interview , United Airlines president and CEO said he felt a lot of the problems with delays and cancellations were because Newark was overbooking flights as an airport but was also short of air traffic controllers.

United has decided to remove about 50 daily departures which the company says should minimize excessive delays and improve on-time performance not only for its customers but for everyone flying through Newark.
As far as air traffic controllers, the application window to apply for the position is currently open and extended to all United States citizens. As of Friday morning, there were 20 delays and 11 cancellations so far out of Newark. Four of those cancellations involved United Airlines. Two are from Delta.
