Ridgewood NJ, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey strongly encourages travelers by air, rail and road to consider additional time this July Fourth holiday weekend, when more than 5.2 million passengers are expected to use its facilities.
The agency anticipates more than 1.9 million passengers will travel through John F. Kennedy International, Newark Liberty International, LaGuardia and New York Stewart International airports from Thursday, June 30, through Monday, July 4. This anticipated volume represents a decrease of 5 percent compared to the same holiday weekend in July 2019.
At the Port Authority’s bridges and tunnels, as many as 3.3 million vehicles are expected to cross the Port Authority’s bridges and tunnels over the same holiday weekend period based on recent travel trends, which is an estimate similar to 2019 actual traffic volumes.
To accommodate motorists traveling between New York and New Jersey, non-emergency repairs and construction projects at the agency’s crossings will be suspended from 5 a.m. Saturday, July 2, to 5 a.m. Wednesday, July 6. A separate travel advisory for any lane closures or service changes for the remainder of that week after the holiday will be issued next week.
As the agency has done so throughout the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the Port Authority continues to follow the guidance of both New York and New Jersey state health authorities with respect to mask mandates at its public transportation facilities. Per current New York public health guidance, the mask mandate remains in effect for its New York facilities, such as: the Port Authority Midtown Bus Terminal; the George Washington Bridge Bus Station; the World Trade Center Oculus Transportation Hub; LaGuardia Airport; John F. Kennedy International Airport, and New York Stewart International Airport. Per New Jersey state health guidance, masks are optional and welcome for all who choose to wear them at the agency’s New Jersey facilities, such as Newark Liberty International Airport and Teterboro Airport. The mask mandate remains in effect for the interstate PATH commuter train system, including at stations and platforms with the exception of open-air platforms.
