Ridgewood NJ, the International Brotherhood of Teamsters said on Saturday that a strike of UPS delivery drivers is still possible after the union said it was negotiating on Friday.
UPS provided a counteroffer to the Teamsters’ demands Friday, hours before the union pledged to go on strike without a new contract. UPS now has until July 5th .
Teamsters General President Sean M. O’Brien said , “We have repeatedly told UPS that a new contract must be in place by August 1. The Teamsters will not work one minute beyond the expiration of our current agreement. UPS did not want to make progress on economics, but they conceded today that they will reach a deal by July 5 because they have no choice.”
The union said it had agreed not to strike as negotiations continued into the weekend. The union’s current contract with UPS expires on July 31 and any new contract must be agreed by July 5 to be ratified before the end of the month.
If no contract is reached by July 5, workers will strike when the contract ends, Teamsters president Sean O’Brien said.

It’s about time, UPS put air conditioning in their trucks. It’s ridiculous. We’re going on 2024 and no conditioning come on.
Nobody is forcing anyone to work for UPS.
There is no air conditioning because drivers keep working there and not quitting. they must like some aspects of the job.
Maybe get A?C and lower the wage, or more likely increas the co-pay of insurance, or provide skimpier benefits.
There is a reason why there is no AC… The company reduces expenses and the employees like other aspects of working there so much that they don’t quit.
This is absolutely about health.
