Ridgewood NJ, the Village Manager Keith Kazmark thanked Village personnel who worked diligently on Friday to ensure limited loss due to the storm and flooding. “Our vehicle fleet was relocated, the recycling yard was secured and our Police Department, Fire Department and OEM worked to block flooded roadways and provide support to residents.”
“Maple Avenue Field was flooded and we’ve spoken with the turf company this morning to plan for clean up. We will be working quickly to get the field open as soon as possible so our children can get back to their athletic activities.”
Kazmark said in comments on Facebook , “Sanitation was directed Monday morning to collect any bulk pick up requests due to flooding. For the record, none have been made as of now. We also had no police or OEM reports of flooding in residences or reports of property damage. We also had no requests of the Fire Department for pump outs or flood related responses at any homes. Our priority is and will always be residents first.”
Kazmark also said that ,”first responders we’re monitoring and working with residents along the Saddle River and Ho-Ho-Kus Brook. The vendor at Maple was Shaw. We will be working with LandTek to clean up the field and make it playable. We are assessing costs now.”
“Meetings have been recently held with the County to address the culvert and bridge on East Ridgewood Ave. near the high school and for the Board of Education to address the footbridge. Both need additional flow capacity. However, neither are under the control of the Village. A larger flood mitigation effort is long term and would require engagement by the NJ DEP, the Federal government and likely the Army Corps. of Engineers.”

Boy this sounds like the fields are the most important thing in the town.
Hurry, hurry hurry. Give us a break. By the end of the week mother nature will dry everything out and then they can clean it up and everyone just relax. They can always go and play pickle ball. It sounds very political.
These families had kids but cannot deal with several days straight of kids inside and if they cannot get out onto a field, it is mayhem. They might need to get a little creative and learn and teach patience. It is a virtue.
This is the first time Whistlebower Guy is handling the flooding situation. Get ready to write a few checks with a couple of zeroes.
Big bucks for turf. Who is getting the kickback?
According to facebook, it seemed like field first, residents next. TapInto is a marketing blog run by a friend of the Mayor, so you won’t get any real news there.
I understand
Alleged flooding.
Turning detestable Facebook into a semiofficial conduit for news from our village manager is appalling. Post on the village website or another site linked from it, please.
How about cleaning out the catch basins all around town.
The sports group can wait. Not a emergency at all.
How much is this going to cost. And how much will the insurance cover. Clean out the ditches. We need better maintenance on sweeping, and all the drainage systems.
