Ridgewood NJ, the Village of Ridgewood Council convened on Wednesday evening to address the 2024 fiscal year budget and receive a comprehensive overview of spending levels from 2023. Village  Manager Keith Kazmark and Village CFO Bob Rooney presented the budget specifics to the mayor and council during the session.

The 2024 budget incorporates the addition of new police officers and first responders to the Village workforce. Currently, the Village has allocated over $61 million for the budget, with nearly $40 million raised through taxes. The local municipal tax rate will see a slight increase to 2.74%, translating to approximately a $146 rise. This increase remains below the rate of inflation.

The council unanimously approved the budget for final passage next month. Taxes remain a pressing concern, not only in Ridgewood but statewide, as the rising cost of living affects residents of all ages, potentially driving them away from suburban communities like Ridgewood.

The public hearing and final adoption of the budget are scheduled for the Village Council meeting on April 10.

  1. Thats the smaller municipal portion.
How much with the school tax rate go up, which is from the bloated school budget which represents most of the amount of our tax bill.

    1. If you look at Mondays agenda posted on the school website, the school budget is 2%.
In last five years, village taxes have increased by close to 20% while school taxes have increased by 9%

      1. do the math the schools make up the largest portion of the property tax bill so proportionately my tax bill increases are because of the schools. Just like ‘inflation is lower’ being spewed by the fake news. stats can be manipulated any why you choose but my checkbook doesn’t lie

        1. School has higher portion of your tax bill, doesn’t justify badly manager village government.
That ratio has shifted in last five years because of our of control tax increases by the village council.

  2. Having a guy with a lousy diner becoming mayor and changing laws to help his business interests and his (RBSA) friends is straight out of a Curb Your Enthusiasm episode.

    1. It is a great restaurant not a diner.

He did not change laws to benefit himself or friends. People without evidence always complain on social media. Don’t cross the line to libel.

  3. So since the pavillion at Habernickel is public, then residents should ensure that they can use it and that it doesn’t become an exclusive use of the tenant who has a lease for the house and some other areas of the property. It is an expensive nice to have so let’s use it once it is built.

    1. your tax dollars are paying for a lot of there! now this pavilion

  4. How much is the water utilities budget and where is all that money going?
