Ridgewood Nj, Village of Ridgewood Garbage and recycling will be collected  today Tuesday January 21st . Due to the freezing temperatures and the threat of black ice, all garbage and recycling containers must be placed at the curb (not on the street) from January 21 to 24. Bringing containers to the curb will help ensure the safety of our sanitation team.

Rear-yard garbage collection will resume on Monday, January 27. Please continue to place your containers at the end of your driveway until there is a clear path to them.

  1. That’s a smart move. They should’ve done that years ago, we could’ve avoided many injuries from our employees, slipping and falling and getting hurt on people’s driveways walkways going into the backyard. Not to mention, workers comp claims, lawsuits, at least we have someone thinking. Remember the old way of thinking, make it disappear..🫵🏼🫣☕️

    1. Haven’t you heard the news ?
      Victimhood is out.

  2. Unfortunately i have to get this news from the blog. NO email from village hall. Its a given when theres snow on my DRIVEWAY *its dry no snow*
But there is not snow on the walk or driveway. same as july

  3. These guys are in their 20’s. I’m a 70 year old who doesn’t have the strength to carry my heavy-duty garbage can to the street. I bought it some years ago so the animals wouldn’t keep knocking it down. And no, I’m not buying a new one with wheels. I’ll lug it to the driveway. Maybe they’ll see it.

    1. Curious to see if these guys will go the extra mile.

    2. Thank you for paying the school taxes for the NYC refugees. I am also your age and its a burden to drag the cans to the curb. All I ask for with my tax bill is pick up the garbage in the back yard, plow the snow, sweep the streets, pick up the leaves, and keep our prompt professional FD and PD there if we need them. And for that, our school taxes subsidize the whining ex- NYers long for the garbage at the curb

  4. While protecting our workers is important, I can’t carry a garbage can up my long slanted driveway to the street. When we are told to do that, I just wait it out. By definition if that happens it’s cold enough outside that a few extra days to a week sitting outside in a metal garbage can will not affect a couple of bags of garbage.

Reading this now, I’m glad I decided not to go out in the freezing cold to take out the garbage last night, because it seems that it wouldn’t have been collected this morning anyway. Like another reader I am shocked to have had to learn this from the blog. Thank you, blog. What did the town do–put it only on Facebook? Like countless others I do not subscribe to Facebook and never will.

  5. I just looked at the village website for this announcement and it says that garbage cans are to be placed at the curb starting TOMORROW (Jan. 22)–obviously an error.

    1. i got an email from the Village today.. long AFTER the missed pickup.
I thought this new manager was internet savvy… but thats only when self promoting with the Democrats. PS… I signed up for the emergency texts.. totally worthless from here. cant recall getting any… but Paramus sends all the time roads are closed, even due to car accidents.. then updates when open. suggest checking with Paramus to learn ‘how to do it the right way’

  6. In bad weather emergencies, all garbage cans should be brought at least to the end of the driveway. There’s no excuse, and furthermore, there should be no backyard pick up all it should be least brought to the front of their garage doors. No one should be behind anyone’s house it’s ridiculous. It’s stupid and It’s leaving a lawsuit open. I don’t know who started this, but it’s gotta be one of the stupidest things that most of us ever seen. If you have kids playing in your backyard, or a dog is running around, etc., etc. put your garbage in the driveway what is the big deal. Do you know how many employees have slept and gotten hurt and had to get surgery because residents are not shoveling, salting their driveways and walks.

  7. Yeah, that was the big old saying, when there was a complaint regarding sanitation, mixed garbage, animals, dead inside the cans, loose garbage, make it disappear, no more follow the damn rules. Ha ha.

  8. Yeah make it disappear! Yup tip me.

    1. heres a tip go get a job at a private sanitation company… you’ll miss out on the generous pay, benefits, early pension and every ($*_$# paid holiday off. And dont forget to put the lid back on my can in my back yard

  9. I don’t want anyone in my backyard, we have a great sanitation department that’s beside the point. No employees from any department should be allowed behind anyone’s dwelling. I know it’s a law that you supposed to have a release to go on anyone’s property. The door is open for lawsuits. Just have the residence bring the garbage cans to the driveway end of the story. And if anyone doesn’t like it, then you’re really lazy and I need to stop special. Pick ups has been going on way too long. and sanitation recycling should have their own superintendent and director. They should not be under the water department. That’s a water utility. if they wanna keep it like that well then when the sanitation recycling departments are short and staffing will then take employees from the water department that’s all.

  10. It’s amazing how people cry about bringing their garbage can to the curb. What’s the big damn problem some of us just don’t understand, if the weather is bad, bring your sanitation to at least the end of your driveway, you bring your recycling to the curb, you bring your yard waste to the curb, you bring your brush and debris to the curb, you bring your leaves to the curb, you bring your cleanup to the curb for sanitation every other week. So what is the damn problem it just doesn’t make sense. We are sorry but no employees should be on anyone’s dwelling property and not just when it’s icy and snow, what happens if the driveway wasn’t paved, or there’s a sinkhole, with this grease and oil on the driveway, or a toy, or maybe the sanitation drug worker trips over a hose or a garden tool come on wake up. There’s so many different things that someone can get hurt on and don’t say it doesn’t happen it happens. then you’ll get the crybabies. Will I pay big taxes to have back to you and pick up please, I pay big taxes for a paid fire department and EMTs, does that guarantee you that they can put out your house if it’s on fire, or you’re having a heart attack and they can save you, at times they can’t

  11. Just bring the cans out my heavens. As for the high taxes check how much of that goes to administrators at cottage pl and the schools. They spend money like there’s no tomorrow
