Ridgewood NJ, Legal experts contacted by The Ridgewood Blog speculate that the Village Council’s failure to rescind Resolution 18-236, Approve Field Design for Schedler Park (approved by unanimous vote on July 18, 2018), invalidates their recent approval of Resolution 23-148, Approve Plan for Schedler Park (approved by 3-2 vote on April 12, 2023).

The experts say failure to rescind the “old” prior to voting on a “new” will subject the “new” to court challenges.

Only time will tell if taxpayers will ponying up attorney’s fees in connection with the issue.

  1. In The Record article Pee Wee said some Ridgewood teams have to practice out of town.

    Utter nonsense.

Pee Wee is good friends with the field usage coordinator, Ed Seavers. Seavers has been scheduling field usage for over 30 years.

Hawes are residents will remember back in 1992 that Seavers led the charge to install turf, lights, and a sound system at the school.

Spring sports (lacrosse, baseball, and softball) should be given priority for field assignments. Sadly, soccer is played 11 months a year now.

    1. 100% and Maroons should have to use fields in other towns.

      Maroons Soccer Club:
“We are a non-profit organization committed to developing soccer players in northern New Jersey, including Ridgewood, Glen Rock, Waldwick, Ho-Ho-Kus, Paramus, Fair Lawn, Hawthorne and other communities in Bergen & Passaic County, NJ”

    2. the guy from baseball at the last counsel mtg. stated Ridgewood is the only town w just 1 – 60×90 field. believe there are 3….Vets , Somerville and Lower Hawes

there are two baseball and softball fields for younger players at stevens but u won’t find one game played there..

Lower Hawes has base anchors for 3 diff field sizes…convert the field to just 60×90, put up some money to upgrade and move the younger players to stevens.

spring is for baseball, softball and lax…..maroons can play in grock, fairlawn and all the other towns they claim to develop players

      1. Stevens Field is almost never used for baseball.

        1. Hmm, turf, baseball or softball.. seems like a waste

        2. It should be used. 2 fields w turf!! Lets use them up to 12’s

  2. Matt Rogers has let this council run rogue since day one by allowing Mayor Paul to vote on the pedestrian plaza and not request him to rescue himself. What say he??

  3. So when are these Elected Officials going to Start to work on less spending on optional ‘’ Pet Projects ‘’ and get down to the hard work of existing spending review try to open up bidding
on existing expenditures with less Town Employees plus benefits expenditures ~

Just keeping Budget spending at Par with high inflation not even seen as a risk to taxpayers by our Town Management. We deserve this as a minimum. Forget new Sports Ball fields used 7 months a year due winter weather etc .

  4. This would be a waste of time and money. No change would result

  5. Maroons Soccer Club:

You want field space…Maroons is a club for all towns in bergen let them utilize the fields in those towns.

    1. Can the board member who steps to the mic every mtg speak to this…seems like a good option for Bergen County Maroons Soccer Club

  6. who was the 2nd no vote for Schedler?

    1. Perron. She voted no because of artificial turf concerns.

      4
      1
    2. Eva Peron believe it or not.

      1. Hmm the real
Lawyer of the 4. Smart move

  7. Rogers allowed Gwenn Hauck to vote Aronsohn in as mayor from a nearly inaudible phone line while on family safari in Africa. This broke every precedent as well as village rules.

The village attorney’s contract is renewed annually. It could be past time to rethink applying that eternal rubber stamp.

    1. And they always voted the same way. All votes they took part in should be recalled.

  8. I’m waiting for the turf field behind Ridge School. Looks like there is plenty of room and it’s not in a flood zone. If we need fields that bad start drawing up the plans.

  10. There was a great deal of misinformation being portrayed by the sports crowds. They are great at spinning their narrative to try to get what they want. Like the guy with the RBSA striped baseball shirt who is apparently now a PFAS expert, in addition to a SMOG expert (comparing Ridgewood to Los Angeles). and then warning residents of Schedler to “Be careful what you wish for” that if there is not enough parking in the proposed lot for every person who will come to the kiddie games, there will be hundreds of cars in the neighborhood and on the streets, as well as busses, etc. I am not sure I’ve witnessed such an ignorant human (term used lightly).

    1. You’ve just described about 50 sports dads. I need more info or I can’t make an educated guess

    2. Scott Muller president of the RBSA. Think he went over the line when he closed w lets name it in memory of 9/11

      1. Oh Scott. You played the Patriot card. Terrible.

      2. He was talking all kinds of BS. Pretty sure he is not a scientist or a chemist though he may have stayed at a Holiday Inn

    3. Cars line Hillcrest rd between soccer, baseball and the personally owned business that has classes and private birthday parties all day Saturdays. Just sayin

      2
      1. Yes, but the cars are not flying off of Route 17 at least 60 MPH or more without ever slowing down . Very narrow stretch of roadway all the way down West Saddle through Ho-Ho-Kus vith no or very few sidewalks, dangerous for all of our children and adults who live here or visit on a daily basis…just sayin

        4
        2
        1. They do and the business brings in buses. School and chartered

Hillcrest is over 2 miles long and connects Glen Ave to Monroe. Ridgewood to Waldwick.

Sports fields are over used by baseball, soccer and parks and rec. the council also allowed a business to be there that runs 57 hours a week. 6 days a week and night time party events. All while games and practices are taking place.

I am on your side. It’s too much for a residential area. We live it every day. The council does NOT care. They do what they do and belittle the tax payers!! Keep up the good fight. I hope you get more respect than the Neighbors of Habernickel did!

          1. I am sorry you have to deal with that, I will admit that I had no idea and that is not fair. I have heard that Healthbarn is double dipping and making a fortune, not only as a 501C3 but also as a for profit business. Someone should look at their books as I have a feeling something is rotten in Denmark!

            1. Who would do that and how do you start?

    4. it is a real day version of Revenge of the Nerds. Jocks vs. everyone else!

  11. Call ch’12 news nj , and do a story on it.

  12. Was putting a private business in a residential neighborhood legal too? Habernickel is over run with camps every vacation and all Summer and not through the TOWN. Private! Classes, camps, birthday parties, feild trips. 57 operating hours per week? Someone is making a ton of money off this neighborhood the use of 11 acres that tax payers pay to care for? What’s legal anymore?

    0
    2
    1. And the Parks and Rec Head who is married to the lawyer with close ties to the Mayor, kept comparing the proposed development of Schedler to Habernickel specifically referencing Healthbarn which I believe is split into 501C# and for profit. So to your point, someone should look into the finances of what is going there. Someone is making money.

      2
      1
      1. Someone is making a lot of money!!! And it’s not ridgewood. It’s menial rent. They would have gotten a lot more if it was a home…over use of the building, park, parking lot and parks and rec are constantly working on the house at the tax payers expense.

It’s crazy no one is looking into a for profit business in a park.

It’s a private business. It could be a yoga studio or nail salon. Healthbarn foundation is located else where. Lynhurst I think

      2. No non profit at healthbarn location in Habernickel. Just a business owned by 1 person. No more partnership classes with the village either. Just 2 or 3 events all year long that may or may not bring in revenue to the village. That’s it. Not even sure what the village gets out of this except a very under market rent. Quite bizarre

  13. Nobody is worried.
The council knows they will not be held accountable.
The sports teams know they will not be denied.

…and the residents will do nothing because we are
    RICH and STUPID

  14. Like we said, the village is just out of control. The town is not desirable like it used to be. There are many great towns around the village, and cheaper taxes to pay, and the services are just as good so think about it.
