Westwood NJ,  Westwood Mayor Ray Arroyo thanked the Westwood Baseball Association, Westwood DPW Superintendent Rick Woods , Westwood Recreation Director Gary Buchheister and Westwood Councilman Anthony Greco ( Council Liaison to both Westwood DPW and Westwood Recreation) for breathing life back into this “field of dreams” at Brookside Park.

Mayor Arroyo said , “Today, Jim Hodges, reminded me that this humble facility was once the only baseball field in Westwood. We have come a long way since then.
With the addition of playing fields at Meadowbrook and Westvale, flood prone Brookside became expendable.”
He continued, “But with the excellent growth of Westwood Baseball Association and Westwood Softball Association, the demand for adequate fields, put stresses on the local supply.
And while we eagerly await the County’s planned restoration of the fields in Pascack Brook Park ( adjacent to our premier, municipal facility at Westvale Park), the leadership of Westwood Baseball took the initiative to revitalize this forgotten gem, that had been ravaged by Hurricane Floyd, and benched…until now, once again pressed into service.
The resurrected baseball field at Brookside Park is perfect for our T ballers. ( Full disclosure: I am the general manager and principal owner of the Bad News Mayors 2.0).
But there is something absolutely beautiful and powerful about returning our fledgling, aspiring base ballers …to this field of dreams in Westwood…where it all started.”

  2. Well done Westwood. The spirit and accomplishment exhibited here is a model for all communities. How many zombie fields exist in the county that could easily be re-activated with a little effort? Towns should be looking what they already have, rather than arguing about what they think they want.

  3. This is great! Love the updates to build a better community!

  4. See now that’s sportsmanship for ya, to work together for the good of all, unlike Ridgewood.
