Ridgewood NJ, Jim Arakelian of REMAX , “What does a 1% hike in the state property transfer fee mean to you? Selling price $500,000 x 1% = $5000.of your homes value to the State of N.J. add this to the current (see picture below) tax and you will be paying the State of NJ nearly $10,000 to sell your $500,000 house.”
The medium sale price in Ridgewood in 2018 was $760,000.
This is a brutal tax. Raising it 1 percent is highway robbery.
This is a great example of why this state is failing. The Federal government increases the pain we all feel by changing the property tax deduction which lowers our property values and the state increases the taxes on the decreasing value of our property. This in turn makes staying in NJ less viable, which again, lowers our property values. Instead of realizing that we need real structural changes in the state to bring the fiscal house in order, we are led by people that don’t know that eventually you run out of other people’s money.
Way to go Ridgewood – make checks payable to Phil Murphy. When will it become clear that voting for Democrats just because you don’t like Trump is idiotic?

There’s a check box for senior citizen or disabled. Or does it just mean senior citizen housing? Is there a reduction for sellers over a certain age?
