Ridgewood NJ, Why is the Mayor and his 3 Candidates fighting so hard to keep the Village Manager. Why are they getting so involved with this when the entire council Majority is not running for reelection. . Reminds me of the following definition :

“The lady doth protest too much, methinks” is a quotation from the 1599/ 1600 play Hamlet by William Shakespeare. It has been used as a figure of speech, in various phrasings, to describe someone’s too frequent and vehement attempts to convince others of some matter of which the opposite is true, thereby making themselves appear defensive, and insincere.

In rhetorical terms, the phrase can be thought of as indicating an unintentional apophasis—where the speaker who “protests too much” in favor of some assertion puts into others’ minds the idea that the assertion is false, something that they may not have considered before.

The Village Manager has no contact and serves at the pleasure of the Council. If the 3 amigos wanted to keep her so bad then maybe they should have run for re election.

In the Village Hall it was observed Roberta proudly displaying the full page advertisement that appears on page A-11 (about retaining her) of Fridays Ridgewood News to staff members gathered in the waiting area outside of her office.

How inappropriate was it of her to conduct a forced discussion about politics with her people who report to her.

By the way, that ad was paid for by the following families:

Richard & Carla Fels, 227 Sunset
Michael & Amy Greenstone, 122 Sunset
Sommer (first names & address unknown)
Taylor (first names & address unknown)
Peter & Allison Von Halle, 48 Clinton

  1. Why did she make the job so political?

She is unelected and became very vocal in the politics of the town. She has a right to free speech but did not know where to draw the line.

I have no idea why the developers, restauranteurs and three amigos want to ensure that she stays in place. Do they need a friend inside to smooth the way for their projects?

Why did she insert her job into the election platforms? For the candidates to declare allegiance to her is very inappropriate. But so was pledging to the garage.

  2. “n the Village Hall it was observed Roberta proudly displaying the full page advertisement that appears on page A-11 (about retaining her) of Fridays Ridgewood News to staff members gathered in the waiting area outside of her office.”

Well you can bet your ass that Queen Bee will be conducting a full investigation on who leaked the above information. She will conduct a purge of all Dept. who do not sign a pledge of loyalty to the Reich

  3. Just goes to show you how controlling the Mayor is. He didn’t have the ball to run for re election but still wants his people in place. Hey Paul; here is a news flash for you. It doesn’t work that way.

  4. And I thought this election was about the 6 people running for office. If this is how the ball is going to roll you can bet I’m not voting for the three that have pledged their lives away. WALSH, VOIGT, HACHE all the way.

  5. Its absolutely clear – – they have no issues to run on other than they want multifamily housing and no one else does, so they need to divert attention.

  6. So now it’s all about job security for the village manager. Hey, I’d like that job and I’m qualified for it. When is her term up?

  7. Na Na Na na…na na na na…hey, hey…goodbye!

  8. Did she finish the investigation into the anonymous person who contacted Sedon’s employer?

Or the investigation into the restaurant owner who built a brick wall on Ridgewood Ave?

  9. Robert Sommer is a lobbyist and a Democratic Party functionary. May have ties to Mayor?

  10. Take a look at her Facebook page. It reveals a lot.

  11. What happened to the investigation about dumping at the compost site?

  12. 10:53 and did she finish the investigation on who illegally dumped concrete at the Lake View leaf recycling center? how much did it cost the taxpayers to remove it? was any town employee disciplined?

  13. She’s be bob-bob-bobble-heading her way out of Village Hall by July 15. Bye bye

  14. By aligning herself with a bloc running for election, doesn’t it stand to reason that if they lose so does she? I am not a fan of hers because she has made her position political. She has chosen individuals to support as well as issues. She has acted like a sixth council member. Not her job. She may have sealed her fate.

  15. But she did manage to hire a code enforcement person to ticket village residents.

The ever changable leaf schedule is her doing. The way that they ticketed people 4 months after the fact is just irresponsible. What the heck was she doing with the tickets all winter? Common criminals are entitled to a speedy trial. Residents have no way to prove that their leaves were not there or that the village manager changed the schedule – again.

  16. I agree with 1:24. She has added new additions to the payroll , all seemingly in areas that have lessened her load. The 4 month delay in leaf ticketing was inexcusable. She along with Paul, Albert and Gwenn has an enemy list. if you speak out on an issue, you are no longer worthy of common courtesy and you might receive a ticket for something!

  17. why would she try to keep that job. it don’t pay that much.

  18. She HAS to go. She will run right back to Paul and co the moment there’s anything to tell. The new council would always be a step behind her. She’s trash. We get rid of trash, right…?

    1. this is the 54,000th comment approved

  19. James- which one? Yours or mine above it..?

    1. yours congratulations !

  20. From the above commentary I think we can agree if the 3 no-istas win, Roberta will be out. So why are people confused when that is pointed out in an ad?

  21. to 11;52 , It was free , no charge , why blown over then what it was.
    thanks mr, jello.

  22. Vote VOIGT, WALSH & HACHE!! Enough discussion over a Village Manager generated by a pathetic and failed Village Mayor who is desperately trying to secure some feeble legacy in the wake of the destruction and discord he has strewn.

  23. Although I think Roberta is way too involved with her opinions on political issues, I do think she is the most informed Village Manager we have had in quite a while. At least she knows what is going on.

  24. 8:50 am – you nailed it with this sentence – “I think Roberta is way too involved with her opinions on political issues”. She needs to change her behavior after the election if she wants to continue here. Doesn’t matter who wins. If she continues to act as the 6th council member – she will have to go.
