An upscale steakhouse with two other New Jersey locations will be moving into the Chestnut Street location once occupied by the now-closed Blend nightclub.
It will take at least six months for the new tenant, Roots Steakhouse, to move in, pushing the store’s opening date to next fall at the earliest.
“I think they’re a very good addition to Ridgewood. Ridgewood doesn’t have an upper-end steakhouse venue. It’s a unique addition to the town,” said landlord Ed Sullivan, the former co-owner of Blend. “I anticipate they’ll be quite successful.”
A substantial renovation of the interior and exterior is scheduled, and, with preliminary architectural drawings complete, some work is already under way.

Ridgewood Novelist Gwendolen Gross fifth novel, “When She Was Gone”
Ridgewood novelist spins new tale

The Ridgewood News
Novelist Gwendolen Gross has lived in Ridgewood for almost 15 years and takes lots of notes about people she meets and places she goes. You might think you recognize yourself in one of her books.
You’re wrong; it isn’t you. But it might be your next-door neighbor.
Gross’ fifth novel, “When She Was Gone,” was released this week. Gross calls her books “realistic fiction” because she writes about people and places that seem familiar, at least on the surface. In fact, she occasionally gets complaints from family and friends who think they are in one of her books.
“My family always finds themselves in things that they’re not in, as opposed to things they are in,” she said.
FDC Servers enabler for cyber bullies and spammers
March 22, 2013
the staff of the Ridgewood blog
Ridgewood NJ, For the last several years headlines have have been repeated over and over again about the negative and dangerous effects of bullying. While traditional bullying relies of physical force a new and it seems more negative form of bullying has garnered national attention.
Local events such as the suicide of Tyler Clementi, brought attention to this national problem . So one would expect that awareness would bring more responsiveness from authorities ,parents and businesses that make be used to perpetuate ‘cyber bullying” .
Apparently some didnt get the memo . The Ridgewood blog runs continues sweeps to block certain IP’s as spammers. Sometime the repetitiveness and shear stupidity of the spammer ,forces us to contact the spammer directly or their host provider in order to better focus the blogs resources on more pressing issues.

We were the contacted by a gentlemen named Marco who asked us to produce the spam logs , well fair enough , but we don’t keep them and general this is used as a tactic to stall and cover for the alleged spammer . After some back and forth Marco finally replied thewird <thewird@yahoo.com>

to me Sorry, I cannot help you without any logs. The internet is a public place, you must learn to defend yourself on your own. No one is going to hold your hand, your not in school.

Well yes the Ridgewood blog can certainly take care of it self , but many can not .Recent reports suggest Cyber Bullying victims are 2 to 9 times more likely to consider committing suicide and nearly 43% of kids have been bullied online. 1 in 4 has had it happen more than once.( https://www.dosomething.org/tipsandtools/11-facts-about-cyber-bullying ) Experts credit cyber bullying as partial responsible for the very sad death of Tyler Clementi. And of coarse the Ridgewood school system has had its share of cyber issues lately . My point being the cyber bullying happens because people know they can get away with it . In a recent survey 81% of young people think bullying online is easier to get away with than bullying in person. My point is that enablers and excuse makers like FDC Servers are just as liable as the excuse makers
Readers Debate Fireman’s legal bills and Veteran Status
Title 40 case law states the complainant must make application for reimbursement and the ad law judge may rule on it, this was a civil service case Comes under 4a (Ithink) but the 2 are different statutorily and with regards to case law the town was obligated to pay . BTW Gabbert stated he didn’t know Albano was a veteran he was quoted so in the paper. ( Really you got to be kidding)
The state of N.J. determines who is and is not considered a veteran. The fact is Gabbert admitted he failed to do his job when he said he didn’t know Albano was a veteran.
Weren’t they required to? Gabbert tried to extract payback and got caught. Court decided he had been wronged and he was promoted. It only seems right that they paid the bills. Council should take it straight from Gabbert’s inflated salary.
They were not required to pay his legal bills. His attorney forgot to include that in the settlement agreement. The Mayor did John a favor.
Yea the Mayor did him a favor. If the court did not mandate payment the why did the Mayor push to pay him. What is the Mayor going to pick and choose who get taken care off. Its all about the votes.

Reader says Teachers need readjust expectations with reality!
I don’t agree with everything Christie does but I give him a lot of credit for taking on the teachers’ union. That alone will guarantee him my vote! Despite the constant claims of it being all about the children, it is really all about the teachers.
They need to come to grips with reality and recognize that those of us in the private sector are hurting and many of us have lost jobs and/or are underemployed and are really struggling to hold onto our homes. Property taxes are killing us. Time to readjust your expectations with reality!
Readers not buying BOE school taxes have gone up less than home prices data
Thed , “If the conclusion is meant to be that school taxes have gone up less than home prices, it’s comparing apples and oranges. The comparison is irrelevant.
What they did not show was the 1978 school population vs current day. The BOE keeps saying how large an increase there has been in enrollment over the past few years as an excuse fir continuous expansions, but it is nowhere near the baby boom peak.
.”
Also the school cost data most noticeably excludes debt service, which is not insignificant

Ridgewood Planning Board members are hopeful they will retain all the needed professionals and consultants in time for the start of the upcoming Valley Hospital expansion public hearing.
This week, the board installed two new alternate members and, pending a satisfactory review from Ridgewood’s municipal engineer, hired a geotechnical and environmental expert specifically for the hospital application proceedings, scheduled to commence April 2.
A traffic engineer, Gordon Meth from the RBA Group, was retained during the March 11 Planning Board meeting, while Village Planner Blais Brancheau and Chris Rutishauser, Ridgewood’s engineer, will represent the board in their respective areas of expertise.
As of Tuesday night, the Planning Board was still seeking an architect to testify for the board.

As the investigation into the online posting of nude photos of Ridgewood High School (RHS) students continues, Ridgewood police said they are still uncertain about who posted the photos.
Police confirmed that nude photos of two Ridgewood High School (RHS) girls were viewed online by other students, but could not confirm rumors that a RHS boy, and perhaps other students, helped post the photos online.
The photos were apparently taken by the girls themselves, said Ridgewood Police Detective Lt. Forest Lyons, and because they are juveniles, the girls’ families have been alerted about the matter.
Ridgewood officials says village schools too full to receive Midland Park students

The Ridgewood Public Schools district will not enter into a sending/receiving arrangement with the Midland Park Board of Education, officials said last week.
Midland Park school officials approached Ridgewood about the possibility of sending Midland Park High School students to be educated at Ridgewood High School (RHS) for a per-pupil fee. But the district has no room, Ridgewood Superintendent Dan Fishbein said.
“There is no interest in entering into a send/receive agreement. They have 340 [high school] students, and we do not have room,” he said. “We simply met with a neighbor who is in the extreme preliminary stages of exploring if this is a direction they want to contemplate heading.
“We did not even get into details,” Fishbein added when asked for more information about the number of students that might have been sent to RHS. “We simply don’t have the room.”
The Village of Ridgewood’s sustainable energy project moving forward
Ridgewood NJ , The Village of Ridgewood’s sustainable energy project is proceeding along nicely. Solar panels at the main Firehouse, the EMS Building, and at the Water Pollution Control Facility have been activated and are producing electricity for the Village to use. We anticipate the solar panels on Village Hall will be activated in the next few weeks.
The biogas fueled engine has been delivered to the Village’s Water Pollution Control Facility (WPCF). The engine and it’s controls are being installed. We anticipate the engine will be ready to start testing with the biogas from the Village’s anaerobic sewer sludge digesters to produce electricity by the end of April 2013. Biogas is basically methane, the same product PSE&G provides to residents to heat their homes.
