30% cost overrun for ramps at Graydon Pool & Lester Stable

Ridgewood NJ, Due to an estimating error made by the Village’s Engineering Department, the new handicapped ramps at Graydon Pool and the Lester Stable will cost $28k more than anticipated, an increase of approximately 30% above what was originally projected.
According to Village Manager Roberta Sonenfeld, the error was associated with miscalculating the quantity of materials needed for the project.
No word as to whether any disciplinary action was taken as a result of the mistake.
If there’s a 30% mistake associated with the proposed parking garage, the $13 million will escalate to $16.9 million. Think about how much parking rates will need to be raised in order to cover that nut.
Every time the Village builds anything there is always something along the lines of “a 30% mistake”, or cost escalation due to needless change orders, and general cost overruns. Is this all just a scam to rip off tax payers or is the Village engineer Rutishauser just not competent? And as 8:08am notes correctly, this kind of “mistake” for the parking garage will be a serious issue. Why would anyone serving on the Council want to expose the taxpayers of Ridgewood to this risk? It’s just pure stupidity. This should be a public-private partnership where business owners from the CBD share the cost for the garage if it will benefit them. At least we can be sure that they will pay more attention to the costs than the Village Engineer, and try harder to avoid “a 30% mistake”
Engineering Department that can’t do basic math????????
When is the last time something that made sense came out of the manager’s office????
Seems like the movie ground hog day it just never ends.
Lets not forget the underpass debacle. Big cost overrun on that one also. Remember changing the center divider..
Well Village Manager Roberta Sonenfeld if your going to come clean on this why don’t you come clean on who illegally dumped concrete at theLeaf Dump. Come on Roberta the truth will set you free
Between these projects and all the handicap spaces in town, is there some secret plan to host the wheelchair in the village?
What a shock. Boondoggle personified. Like the ramp into the deep end that has never seen a wheelchair in two full seasons, these won’t be used, either, except as bullet points on Aronsohn’s CV.
Disciplinary actions don’t exist under the Sonenfeld Administration. Erroneous seems to be their motto…starting with her…. all the way down.
1:31, this same crap has been going on for years, remember Ten Hoeves golden toilet
Village Hall and the Fire HQ were both built on a flood plain…. Wonder who gets paid for the post flood cleanup every time there’s a flood? and how much extra do we pay for Engine 31 to be staffed 24/7 by a full-time, three man crew to make sure we have equipment on the west side of the Village in case flooding cuts it off from HQ? Both of these seem like boondoggles
Rip off the taxpayers?
That’s frickin hilarious 832… Where the F have you been.
Here’s another good one..” Why would anyone serving on the council what to expose the taxpayers of Ridgewood to this risk”. OMG how pathetic could you possibly be? You think anyone ON the council gives a flying F
About you? These scams have been going on for years and is part of how the players get their kick backs and it won’t be ending any time soon.
And to think all of this could have been avoided if the council would have allowed physically challenged people to enter Graydon by the Stable with its handicap bathroom, ramp to the building, level ground to the pool, and easy parking
All that is needed is a Mobie Chair and a will to do the right thing
