The accident occurred at the busy intersection of Erie Avenue and Franklin Avenue. According to initial reports, a black Honda Pilot involved in the crash struck a curb with enough force to flip completely over.

The out-of-control SUV narrowly missed colliding directly with the residential home of Midland Park Mayor Harry Shortway before finally coming to a halt inside a garden bed on the mayor’s property.

Firefighters Use Heavy Equipment to Disentangle SUV

The impact of the rollover left the Honda Pilot heavily compromised and literally impaled on a local light post.

Responding volunteers from the Midland Park Fire Department had to deploy specialized heavy equipment, utilizing a power saw to cut through the metal and debris to successfully free the trapped vehicle.

A multi-agency emergency response team quickly managed the scene, including:

  • Midland Park Police Department

  • Midland Park Fire Department

  • Midland Park EMS

  • The Valley Hospital Paramedic Team

Two individuals involved in the wreck were treated at the scene by the Midland Park Ambulance Corps and paramedics before being transported to a local hospital. Officials confirmed that both victims sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

Scene Cleared and Under Investigation

A flatbed tow truck service was called to the intersection to extract and remove both heavily damaged vehicles from the wreckage site. Traffic near Erie and Franklin Avenues experienced temporary delays while first responders cleared debris and secured the damaged light post infrastructure.

The exact sequence of events leading up to the initial two-vehicle collision remains under active investigation by the Midland Park Police Department.
