Ridgewood NJ, according to the Bergen County Superintendent of Schools all 76 public school districts in Bergen County have submitted their budgets. Each district will hear back in the next few weeks, and there is still time for districts to make adjustments.

The majority of districts that submitted an appeal regarding Chapter 44 property tax relief , including the Ridgewood Public School District,  and were successful. A revised Ridgewood School budget will be presented at a public hearing.

The Ridgewood Board of Education  appealed against the state of New Jersey following a discrepancy of more than $4 million in savings reported by the BOE and estimated savings made by the State.

School Business Administrator, Scott Bisig explained , “Chapter 44 was a state initiative. When they changed the health care plan, they came up with another option for faculty to choose a cheaper plan if they desire to from January of ‘21 to June of ‘21. Based on that computation, the districts throughout the state submitted their estimated cost impact to the district. So, the problem is, within the state, all of the districts are now appealing this because when the state rolled out their revised adjustments, none of them would agree with what we sent in from the district level.”
