Ridgewood NJ, the Committee to Unleash Prosperity recently released a study titled “Them Vs. U.S.,” delving into the disconnection between America’s cultural elites (defined as individuals with at least one postgraduate degree, an annual income of $150,000 or more, high-density urban residence, and Ivy League affiliation) and ordinary Americans. Pollster Scott Rasmussen conducted the research, and the findings were highlighted in a compelling column by Kim Strassel in today’s WSJ.
Here are some of the noteworthy revelations from the survey:
- Financial Well-being: A staggering 74% of surveyed elites believe they are currently in a better financial position than when Joe Biden assumed the presidency. In contrast, only 20% of ordinary Americans share this sentiment.
- Individual Freedom: Elites are three times more likely than the general population to express concern about excessive individual freedom in the country.
- Climate Change: A remarkable 72% of elites, including 81% of those who graduated from top universities, support the prohibition of gas-powered cars. Additionally, majorities of elites favor bans on gas stoves, non-essential air travel, SUVs, and private air conditioning, signaling significant lifestyle changes.
- Politics: Approximately three-quarters of cultural elites align themselves as supporters of President Biden.
These findings underscore the substantial disparities in perspectives between cultural elites and the broader American population on financial well-being, individual freedom, climate change policies, and political affiliations.

crazy! While I personally qualify as defined in the survey but aside from #1, am in the tiny minority on #2,3,4
About as ridiculous as people making 50K a year thinking that makes them middle class, because the DOL says so.
First of all $150k is nothing. Second, postgrad can also indicate you’ve had the leisure to dedicate a significant portion of your time to regurgitating information in exchange for pats on the head and ribbons. That, coupled with being a consumer of more secondhand information than the general populace, makes you a greater vehicle for believing and spewing pure propaganda. See, e.g. point #3. And you think these elites are going to forgo air-conditioning and private travel? And what, live like the hoi polloi? What the hell’s the point of being an elite?
And can you imagine anyone thinking themselves an elite and supporting Joe Biden, or thinking he actually does anything? The Establishment threw Biden under the bus numerous times for his blatant plagiarism and revisionist autobiographical yarns, his utterly creepy behavior and for being an embarrassing gaffe factory — and that was all well before he became a stumbling, muttering, dementia ridden senile old poopy pants. Are you kidding???!!! Elite what? Idiot? OK.
