Fair Lawn NJ, Fair Lawn High School and local authorities are investigating after antisemitic graffiti, including a swastika, was discovered in a student restroom. The disturbing incident has prompted a swift response from both school officials and law enforcement.
Superintendent Condemns Hate Speech
Superintendent Rui Dionisio addressed the incident in a letter to parents, emphasizing the district’s commitment to inclusivity and respect.
“Such expressions of hate are unacceptable, have no place in our community, and starkly contrast the principles of inclusivity and respect instilled in our schools,” Dionisio stated.
The graffiti was reported to the Fair Lawn Police Department, the Anti-Defamation League, and the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office. The superintendent assured families that disciplinary action will be taken in accordance with district policies and applicable laws.
Community Urged to Come Forward
Both school officials and Mayor Gail Rottenstrich have called on community members to assist in the investigation. Individuals with information are encouraged to contact the high school administration or the Fair Lawn Police Department.
Support Systems in Place for Students
Superintendent Dionisio highlighted the district’s commitment to addressing antisemitism and hate, stating, “Our district will maintain its established partnerships with community members as we continue addressing antisemitism and all forms of hate in our schools.” Counseling services are available for any students affected by the incident.
Mayor’s Response
Mayor Gail Rottenstrich echoed the call for action in a Facebook post, acknowledging the immediate steps taken to address the situation. She reiterated that appropriate disciplinary measures will follow.
This incident serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing need to combat hate and foster a safe, inclusive environment in schools.

The police and the ADL aren’t going to do anything about this. Shut down the whole school for a month? Maybe indefinitely. Make an example. Parent have to scramble? Oh well. Betcha theyll do a better job of stomping this crap out at home.
One antisemite downvoted already.
Although there has been a rise in antisemitism lately, young boys have been drawing swastikas as long as I’ve been alive.
Hate begins at home.
