TRUMP: ‘ISRAEL WILL NOT SURVIVE’ WITH IRAN NUCLEAR DEAL IN PLACE

WASHINGTON – Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump warns Americans that “Israel will not survive” if the incompetence of the political class continues to dictate our foreign policy.

Trump appeared Wednesday at the rally to stop the Iran nuclear deal in front of the U.S. Capitol. Preceded by Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX)
96%, who called Trump his “friend,” and entering to raucous applause against the backdrop of REM’s classic hit “It’s The End of the World As We Know It,” Trump pulled no punches.

“Never, ever ever in my life have I seen any transaction so incompetently negotiated as our deal with Iran,” Trump said. “And I mean never.”

Trump discussed the $150 billion signing bonus the Iranians get as part of the deal, and then turned his attention to the four hostages being held in the Islamic country, including Christian pastor Saeed Abedini.

“If I win the presidency I guarantee you that those four prisoners are back in our country before I ever take office,” Trump said. “They will be back before I ever take office. They know it and if they don’t know it, I’m telling them right now.”

Trump addressed Iran’s Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s Wednesday tweet declaring that Israel will not survive the next 25 years.

“Our president is calling the person who is really the boss in Iran ‘Supreme Leader,’” Trump said. “It just came out a little while ago, he said Israel will not exist in 25 years…He also said very very strongly that this is the end of our dealings with the United States…So, they rip us off, they take our money, they make us look like fools, and now theyre back to being who they are. They don’t want Israel to survive…with incompetent leadership like we have right now, Israel will NOT survive.”

Trump: Iran deal makes us ‘look like fools’

Donald Trump rallied opponents of the Iran nuclear deal at the Capitol on Wednesday, slamming President Obama’s diplomatic pact as an embarrassment to the country.

“We are led by very, very stupid people,” Trump told a crowd gathered on the Capitol’s west lawn.

“We are going to get nothing,” he said of the nuclear deal. “They rip us off, they take our money, they make us look like fools.”

Trump, who has become the front-runner in the GOP race for the White House, said the United States bungled the negotiations over the Iran pact, which will lift sanctions on Iran’s economy in exchange for limits on its nuclear program.

“Never, ever in my lifetime have I seen a transaction negotiated so incompetently,” he said.

“We will have so much winning if I get elected you’ll get bored of winning,” the business mogul added. “We are going to start winning big league.”

Trump wasn’t the only presidential contender on hand for the rally. He was preceded onstage by Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), a rival for the 2016 nomination who has at times defended Trump from criticism.

To celebrate Labor Day—widely considered the unofficial start of campaign season—candidates and elected officials from all over Bergen County were out in full force at Rutherford’s annual Labor Day Street Fair. The candidates walked down the crowded rows of vendor booths on Park Avenue to preach their missions and their goals for the future of the county.

Among those present were the candidates for the Bergen County freeholder race. Incumbent Democrats Tracy Zur, Steve Tanelli, and Tom Sullivan set up their booth just a few stalls down from Republican challengers Ken Tyburczy, John Mitchell, and Daisy Ortiz-Berger.

Within weeks after they agreed to pay $5.5 million to settle allegations of investment fraud, a Bergen County father and son began selling bogus investments again, state authorities said Tuesday.

George Bussanich of Park Ridge and his son, George Bussanich Jr. of Saddle River, settled state allegations of defrauding 26 investors in August 2014. Then – although the settlement barred them from selling investments – they almost immediately solicited $3 million from 15 of the same investors, the state attorney general said Tuesday.

“The audacity of these defendants is astounding,” said Acting Attorney General John J. Hoffman in a statement. “After the Bureau of Securities exposed how this father and son deceived investors, securing a $5.5 million settlement against them, the defendants allegedly went right back to their old game, defrauding investors of another $3 million and even using some of the new funds to make payments under the settlement.”

N.J. appeals court upholds warrantless searches when police detect pot smell

New Jersey has been running a medical marijuana program since 2010, but that does not mean the drug has been legalized, a state appeals court ruled Tuesday.

Police may still search people without a warrant when they detect the smell of marijuana, the appeals panel said in a ruling that is binding on all New Jersey trial courts.

A three-judge panel rejected an appeal filed by a South Jersey man who argued that “possession of marijuana is no longer illegal in all instances” because the state opened the door to non-criminal uses of the drug by enacting the Compassionate Use Medical Marijuana Act in 2010.

George A. Myers was arrested in Cumberland County in 2012 after a state police trooper found him in a parked car in an area where gunfire had been reported. Myers was not enrolled in the medical marijuana program at the time of his arrest, according to the court record.

The vacant space at the Ridgewood Public Library café was filled last week, with Flo’s Nook taking up residence.

Flo’s Nook, an offshoot of Flo’s Depot (a coffee shop at the Ridgewood train station) and Flo’s Market (a store in Hawthorne), will offer a variety of food and drinks for sale.

“We offer it all,” said Barbara Agnello, one of the owners. “The beauty is that [it is] an extension of our store. I’m going to bring sandwiches and salads; I’m going to bring a hot meal each day.

“But the beauty is that anybody can go online to (our website) and order out special lunch from our store if they wanted a larger menu, and we can have it delivered here by noon if the order is made by 10 a.m.,” she said.

Flo’s Nook will also offer a place for library patrons to read the materials they borrow.

Authorities seize heroin in Teaneck with street value of more than $3.5M

TEANECK — Authorities seized 22 kilograms of heroin — said to have a street value of between $3.5 million and $5 million — and arrested a 25-year-old California man in what the state police described Tuesday as one of the most significant drug busts of the year.

Miguel Armenta-Villa of Bakersfield was arrested Friday and charged with first-degree possession of heroin and possession with the intent to distribute, the state police said in a statement.

Sgt. Jeff Flynn of the state police said the arrest and seizure prevented a massive amount of drugs from making it to the streets.

“This is certainly one of the largest seizures of the year,” Flynn said.

The state police said in a release that detectives, along with agents from the federal Drug Enforcement Agency, the New York City Police Department, the New York State Police and the Bergen County Sheriff’s K-9 Unit, made the arrest at 620 Bryant Ave. after a three-week investigation.

The address was not Armenta-Villa’s residence, authorities said.

The state police said detectives “subsequently searched the residence and seized 22 kilograms of heroin, which equates to 1.1 million decks with a street value of $3.5 to $5 million.”

Heroin is always “cut” or diluted at least once — often two or three times — with ingredients such as baby laxatives or aspirin to decrease the potency and stretch the drug to make more doses, Flynn said.

Trump calls on CNN to donate debate money to veterans

Donald Trump is putting his mouth where CNN’s money is, demanding that all profits from the broadcast of next week’s GOP debate go to veterans.

Following news that CNN has been capitalizing on Trump-mania by raising ad prices for the Sept. 16 debate to 40 times their normal rate, the GOP front-runner sent a letter to the news network’s president, Jeff Zucker, to insist that he share the wealth.

“While I refuse to brag,” Trump writes, “this tremendous increase in viewer interest and advertising is due 100% to ‘Donald J. Trump.’”

Given the record-setting audience for the first GOP debate on Fox News, Trump says it stands to reason that CNN’s audience “will be even larger.”

United Airlines CEO resigns amid federal probe

United Airlines CEO Jeff Smisek has resigned from his post due to a federal probe into allegations the company offered air service to win favor from a New Jersey state official, the company announced on Tuesday.

The Bergen County, N.J., newspaper reports that federal prosecutors have been investigating allegations that United offered flights from Newark to Columbia, S.C., to benefit the chairman of the Port of New York and New Jersey, which operates one of United’s biggest hubs, Newark Liberty International Airport.

United said Tuesday that Smisek and two other high-ranking officials have resigned effective immediately because of the investigation, which the company stressed it is cooperating with.

The company said a member of its board of directors, Oscar Munoz, is taking over effective immediately.

United said Tuesday Munoz would provide a steady hand at the helm of the company, despite the ongoing federal investigation.

“Oscar’s track record demonstrates that he has the right blend of strategic vision and strong leadership to continue United’s upward trajectory,” Board of Directors Chairman Henry Meyer said in a statement announcing the resignations of Smisek and United’s executive vice presidents of communications and government affairs.

“United is well positioned to continue executing on its strategic plan to further improve performance and the value and service it provides to its customers,” Meyer continued. “I’m honored to have been elected non-executive chairman by my fellow directors. The board thanks Jeff for his service to both United Airlines and Continental Airlines.”

Smisek has led United since its 2010 merger with Continental. Smisek previously ran Continental, which also operated a hub at Newark.

Reader Every year there is a Village water shortage, every year we hear we need to increase system capacity, every year we hear about lack of compliance.

What I find interesting is the ability for the public to fall into a dictated compliance without question. Every year we hear there is a water shortage, every year we hear we need to increase system capacity, every year we hear about lack of compliance.

Do we consider that some of the homes using the water have invested in new landscaping or lawns and may need to water them? How quickly would the town begin to look rundown without a flower in sight? Have we calculated the use of the new apartments and added system capacity or backups to address? Have we added any collection and storage to the system, we had a good amount of snow this past winter, did we store it? Are there any short or long term plans to address this issue other them having neighbors running around looking for the police to ‘rat’ out an neighbor? Seems that if that feels good to anyone, we have a much more serious issue in our neighborhoods

Ridgewood Moves on Early Morning Water Enforcement

Message from the Village Manager Regarding Stage 4 Enforcement

I have received questions and concerns from several residents regarding the enforcement of Stage 4 restriction. There are ordinances that authorize specific staff in the Village to have the ability to enforce…..I think I mentioned in my E-Notice on Friday that based on Stage 4 and its seriousness, I authorized more staff members to have this capacity. I am hoping that the enhanced enforcement that we had this weekend and the coming days will be more effective than during Stage 2 restrictions. The only way a summons can be written is if the person sees the watering – unfortunately wetness around the area and having a green lawn do not cut it for writing a summons….so we have to be there at the right time. We now have a person dedicated to identifying violators between 4AM through 7AM – a time period that I do not think we were covering adequately…… we also have the RPD out around this time. Our Fire Department was making rounds over the weekend and actually shutting off the water in homes where automated sprinklers were in use if no one was home to shut the water off themselves. The Fire Department will also begin to issue summonses.

It is a bit early to share this news but it does seem to appear that the restrictions are having some impact. On average in August we used 10.2 million gallons per day….yesterday we used 7.2 million. Board of Ed properties as well as Village properties are all in compliance with the restrictions.

From a communications perspective, our first robo call early Friday afternoon was sent to 20,000 phones with 11,000 actually getting it…..we then did a second call in the evening. We do need to extend that list and the team is working on this. Our e-notice went out to about 4,000 email addresses – we have been emphasizing sign up. We also have posted the restrictions on the Village Facebook site, both Village websites (Ridgewood and Ridgewood Water) as well as both tv channels – but these are pull not push means of communicating. We also have posted the restrictions on the movable electronic sign on the west side. I am mentioning this because I think that there is no excuse for anyone not knowing that we are in Stage 4.

Young parents pushing strollers share the broad sidewalks with friends schmoozing at an outdoor café. Teens hunt for bargains, while grandparents treat their charges to a matinee at the Bow Tie Cinemas Warner Quad or a fresh-made waffle cone at Kilwins. Nearby, Memorial Park at Van Neste Square is an oasis of calm. Welcome to downtown Ridgewood.

“I love how walkable it is, and that everything is in one small area,” says children’s book author Ann Malaspina. “I can go to the post office and mail a package, get a coffee at Ridgewood Coffee Company, meet a friend for lunch—all while having my car serviced.” And the town is “family friendly,” adds Malaspina, who raised her two sons in Ridgewood.

East Ridgewood Avenue is the main artery, ending at the sprawling California Mission Revival-style train station, which dates to 1916 and is listed on the national and state Register of Historic Places. Over the past year, elegant way-finding signs—a joint effort by the Village and the local Chamber of Commerce—have sprouted on downtown corners, pointing visitors toward the many shops and restaurants on the side streets. More will come.

“I look at downtown as a destination,” says Village Manager Roberta Sonenfeld, a 19-year resident. “We have lots of people coming from different directions. It’s a small town feel that is also urbane and sophisticated.”

Juan Williams: #BlackLivesMatter is playing with fire

#BlackLivesMatter is fast becoming its own worst enemy.

It lacks an agenda, it is antagonizing the black community’s top white political allies, including Democrats running for the party’s 2016 presidential nomination, and it is not finding common ground with any of the Republican majority in Congress.

The catalyst for the movement was outrage over the deaths of young black men like Freddie Gray, Michael Brown and Eric Garner at the hands of police officers who arguably used excessive, even deadly force. But where is the list of solutions to the injustices it so often decries?

The movement’s failure to get its collective act together carries real danger for the political clout of the African-American community in the 2016 elections and beyond.

With the movement potentially discouraging black American trust in Democrats, #BlackLivesMatter is increasing the odds of a sharp drop in black voter turnout in 2016. Already Democrats privately worry that without President Obama on the ballot, the black vote will decrease the turnout needed to keep the White House and win back the Senate.

That is more likely to happen if black voters get caught up in the anger that the BlackLives movement has directed at the political structure. The potential absence of black voters who have become discouraged — about a quarter of the nation’s Democrats — would be more devastating than any Republican plan to require voter identification, reduce the number of polling places in black neighborhoods or cut back on early voting.

When BlackLives activists denounce the Democratic National Committee for issuing a resolution in support of police reform, they are hurting themselves with party officials. When they say that all political parties try to “control or contain” black liberation, they are also damaging faith in the political system, especially among young people.
