Ridgewood NJ, a widespread glitch with Bank of America’s mobile and online services left thousands of customers unable to access their accounts or view their balances on Wednesday. The issue, which began in the morning, affected over 20,000 users nationwide before the company resolved the problem by the evening, according to both company officials and the outage-monitoring website, Downdetector.
Many customers were outraged, turning to social media to express their frustrations. They reported not being able to log into their accounts, seeing zero balances, or receiving error messages. Some users even experienced issues at ATMs, where they were charged for withdrawals they never received.
Customer Reactions on Social Media The social media platform X (formerly Twitter) became a hotspot for users airing their grievances.
- “Bank of America, at least give customers some updates on why BOFA is down?” wrote one user, Asim Khan.
- Another frustrated customer noted, “Not cool to leave people hanging and feeling insecure about their money.”
- One particularly angry post read, “I’m definitely looking for another bank. I’ve been on hold for an hour trying to pay for food, and nothing. Horrible customer service.”
Bank of America’s Response Bank of America spokesman Matthew Card addressed the issue in a written statement, acknowledging that some customers had encountered problems accessing their account information. He assured customers that the technology issues had been fully resolved and apologized for any inconvenience caused.
Card did not disclose how widespread the outage was or the total number of customers affected, but he clarified that the issue was not related to a cyberattack.
Previous Glitches and Broader Context This isn’t the first time Bank of America customers have faced such issues. A little over a year ago, customers took to social media after finding money missing from deposits and Zelle transactions. This latest glitch also comes just two days after a nationwide Verizon outage, which left many unable to make calls or send texts.
With millions of digital clients across the U.S., including 2.2 million in Los Angeles alone, the outage has raised concerns about the stability and reliability of online banking services, particularly for those who rely on them for everyday transactions.
As more customers move toward digital banking, these disruptions highlight the importance of quick communication and transparent service from financial institutions when technical issues arise. For now, Bank of America customers can once again access their accounts, but trust in the bank’s tech infrastructure may need some repair.

B of A needs to set an example and terminate those responsible. Same with those in other companies who fail to protect our information from Cyber attacks.
20,000 users ….. LOL that’s a blip for them
People need to realize that our reliance upon technology has made us vulnerable.
After the recent brilliant beeper news in the mideast, think about who makes our chips that control your cell phones, automobiles and everything else.
We take it all for granted that things will go well… until our enemies decide its time to disable devices
No credit card machines working, no internet access, no cell phones, no text…
what would you do?
Cash is king so keep small denominations around and think what would you do if the stores were unable to sell you food since their credit card machines were down, or gas stations couldnt sell you gas
