Ridgewood NJ, let’s welcome this new bakery on the west side coming to Ridgewood! Black Magic Bakehouse is opening our first brick and mortar on the west side of Ridgewood! It’s a very big, very scary step (especially doing it alone) . The demand has grown so much over the years that Black Magic Bakehouse pop ups have been selling out in under an hour!
Black Magic Bakehouse has launched a kickstarter to raise money to help purchase equipment along with a small build out. Black Magic Bakehouse cannot wait to be a part of this wonderful community and offer a cozy space to enjoy sourdough pastries and delicious coffees.
Kickstarter is an all or nothing campaign which means if we don’t reach our target goal our project doesn’t get funded. There is no risk for donors (any pledges made will be refunded if the goal isn’t met) . Thank you all so much for your support and I can’t wait to serve you!

Black Magic Bakehouse first started back in 2018 after owner, Deanne Veliky, spent 2 years perfecting her sourdough brioche recipe out of her tiny bungalow apartment in San Clemente, CA. While juggling a job bartending at a local bar, she would bring extra doughnuts to hand out to the tipsy patrons. It wasn’t long before people were asking for doughnuts during every shift. What was first used as a way to get rid of extras, turned to Sunday morning pop ups in front of the bar. During her first pop up she sold out in nearly an hour! But that was just the beginning.
As time went on the urge to pursue her micro bakery business grew stronger and the demand became more apparent. Deanne quit her baking job March 2022 to focus on her business full time. Moving into a home in Ho-Ho-Kus and converting a room in her home to a micro bakery, Deanne started a weekly pick up called Sourdough Sunday. A weekly bake with a pre set menu for clients to choose from.
The Black Magic Bakehouse mission is all about community. Supporting small regional farmers for our grains, local coffee roasters, seasonal produce that dictates our rotating menu flavors, and making organic connections while coming together over our common love of pastry. By keeping money within small businesses we are keeping money out of the pockets of mega corporations.
