Westwood NJ, a bomb threat disrupted a Democratic gubernatorial forum at the Westwood Community Center on Wednesday night, prompting police to clear the building shortly after the event concluded.

Officials & Attendees Escorted from the Venue

🚨 Westwood police swiftly responded to the threat, escorting Jersey City Mayor Steve Fulop and approximately two dozen attendees from the building.

According to Fulop and event organizer Ruth Dugan, the evacuation took place sometime after 9 p.m., following the conclusion of the forum.

“Police felt that the place was secure, but they didn’t want to make a big deal out of it,” said Fulop, who is currently running for New Jersey governor.

Authorities have not yet released details regarding the nature of the threat.

Forum Highlights & Attendance

🗳️ The event drew around 200 attendees, but Fulop was the only gubernatorial candidate present. State Sen. John McKeon attended as a surrogate for U.S. Rep. Mikie Sherrill.

Although five candidates were originally scheduled to participate, Fulop was the sole contender to take part in the discussion.

Investigation Ongoing

🔍 Details from the Westwood Police Department were not immediately available on Thursday morning. Authorities have not confirmed if the threat was credible or if an investigation is underway.

The incident raises security concerns for future political events, especially as the New Jersey governor’s race heats up.
