Ridgewood NJ, A New Jersey Transit train crashed into the terminal in Hoboken. The incident happened at around 9am on Thursday. It’s been confirmed Pascack Valley Train #1614, departs Spring Valley 7:23 am(?) due to arrive at 8:30 am. Train came in on Track 4 .
Initial report is over 100 injuries .
Massive Emergency services response.
Hoboken is shut down to non emergency services.
Correction 1 confirmed dead by Governors Christie and Como , not passenger someone standing on the platform .
PATH service to HOB will be operating full rush hour service .
Shuttle buses from HOB to SEC running.
Cause of accident is still unclear .
It is being reported that major damage has been done to the train station including a partial roof collapse. Reports from riders say no indication that anything was wrong.
How the hell does a train make it all the way around the 180 degree turn, through all of those track-to-track shifts that lead up to the big Hoboken train terminal, to slam into the station wall at such a high rate of speed? Three people died, we’re they walking on the platform and got hit by the derailing train?
Correction: Three people ARE NOT confirmed dead.. as of 1:30 PM. there is sadly 1 fatality. In this day of rapid social media and the quick replorting of information we all need to be careful what we write as fact
Some are surmising a heart attack by engineer. Are they ever going to install those safety measures????????? Many lives could have been saved by now, not to mention injuries, endless inconvenience, and millions of dollars in damage.
The Record, based on some TV station, is saying three are dead, but the NY Times is saying “at least one.” I think yes, it was someone on the platform literally hit by the train, which barreled over the pedestrian area. Unreal. Meanwhile somebody else was hit and killed by a train leading to Penn Station.in Newark earlier this morning. Happy National Coffee Day….

How is is possible that there isn’t a system that stops a train from coming into a station at too high a speed?
