Ridgewood NJ,  on February 1, 2020 there was a rate increase  for parking in the central business district. The new rates will be $1.00/hour in the lots and $1.25/hour on the streets.  The rate increase is deemed  necessary in order to pay for the construction of the Hudson Street Garage.

Word is from various merchants that business is down 40% since the rate increase and more so since the “corona virus ” scare. Add all the construction in the central business district and pressure from on line sales and New jersey having the worst business climate in the USA , the picture is not pretty .

Don’t blame the current council they are just stuck cleaning up the mess they were handed , once again look to the previous council of “Aronsohn-Hauck-Pucciarelli ” aka “the 3 Amigos” who’s pursuit of high density housing  has led to disastrous consequences .

  1. ……at higher prices, buyers will demand less of an economic good.

  2. Was in Westwood yesterday – town was packed – no empty stores or huge garages / ugly apartment complexes – 10 cents got an hour of parking.

  3. Current council can NOT continue to hide. What positive accomplishments can they confirm? They approved the garage and the fee increases. Hard to tell what they have done with the CBD committee, the landlord and the guild. Shade tree fell apart, Schedler is costing a fortune, BOE and VC are not working collaboratively, services will decline as village is under prepared for the development. Developers have a strong gold on the planning board both commercially and with the residential homes. Oh but the commuters are happy so that’s all that matters and Ramon thinks he can apply for the free holder job based on that platform. Sigh

  4. Great, so instead of addressing the problem at hand you people will continue to bitch about a garage that’s going to be built weather you like it or not.
Get your ancient heads out of your asses or move to Boca if your so upset.

  5. This current mayor and council haven’t accomplished anything but hire new police and fire employees. The CBD looks horrendous, so many roads are behind in being repaved. Park-and-ride on 17 needs to be reconstructed it looks like a war zone. The village roads are filthy. Whatever happened to this sweeping program through out the village.

  6. Hey Boca

    Take a walk

  7. Resident Shopper above is 100
    Percent correct

    Important enough to Repeat

Their agenda is not the taxpayers agenda

  8. Well give me the cheese .

  9. “Ridgewood, a village in turmoil”

  10. NOT TO WORRY…
    .
The GINORMOUIS GARAGE will open soon enough and SAVE THE DAY !!!
    .

  11. The remaining Ridgewood merchants have either a niche or soon to be outmoded business plan. The Village can not expect restaurants and salons to be the only viable businesses. Besides, many of the restaurants are not worthy of being destinations for foodies and specialty stores can be found most everywhere. NOTE TO LANDLORDS, the days of $65 per foot rents are over. There is a thing called “Al Gore’s inter-web” which will supplant any need for brick and mortar retail stores. A parking lot will not be your savior. Where is Dom Nizza when he is needed most?

  12. The VOR political leaders are all talking their own book.

As they pack up for their glory target destination political road shows..on our dime..

very little of that one sided conversation is in the taxpayers
longer term interest. Sad but True.Citizens guards should be up .

Don’t expect a lot of concern about our sky high taxes..

  13. Yep, remember how we tried to convince Mayor Airbag and Deputy Pooch that all of their assertions regarding the benefits of the gargemahala and housing projects were false? Life is changing and we need to face the future. Building projects and garages in a town like ours worked in the 40’s and 50’s, but that was a long time ago. Now is when you want to preserve what you have and not add to it in the vain and stupid hope that suddenly businesses will be re-vitalized just like 40 years ago.
Now we are paying for those mistakes, figuaratively and literally. We need to raise parking rates to pay for the parking garage needed to sustain the apartment buildings that are being built to save the businesses but the businesses are going out of business becuase no one wants to pay for the increased cost of parking. Same thing will happen as we raise taxes to build classrooms in our schools for the new influx of students.

  14. the deal for the oversized began with Fish and went down the crapper from that point of complete mismanagement
by the elected officials who sold us down the river.

has anyone looked at the closest robins nest of wooden boxes strapped to the Franklin side of NJ TRANSIT STATION?

    a disgrace
