Ridgewood NJ, According to newly available court documents in a whistle-blower lawsuit against Academy Bus, a former employee claims that the private bus company defrauded NJ Transit since 2003. This is nine years earlier than the accusations made by the lawsuit filed against Academy Bus by the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office in November 2020. Academy is a company that was paid to operate seven NJ Transit routes in Hudson County.

Ridgewood NJ, on Friday, November 27, trains will operate on an enhanced weekend/major holiday schedule (the same schedule as operated on Martin Luther King Jr. and Presidents Days), with extra trains during morning and afternoon/evening peak periods and rail service on the Gladstone Branch. Hudson-Bergen Light Rail will operate on a regular weekday schedule.  Newark Light Rail will operate on a Saturday schedule.  River LINE will operate on a weekday schedule.  Holiday bus schedules vary by route—customers are advised to visit njtransit.com.

Grewal announced today that the State has intervened in a whistleblower lawsuit against Academy Bus, LLC (Academy), which advertises itself as the nation’s largest private transportation company, as well as related entities and individuals. The Attorney General’s complaint alleges the defendants defrauded New Jersey Transit (NJT) out of more than $15 million by vastly underreporting the number of scheduled bus trips that the company missed and charging fees for hours and miles driven for bus trips that never happened.

Ridgewood NJ,  As part of the effort to continue its fare modernization initiative, NJ TRANSIT, in conjunction with its vendor Conduent Transportation, has begun the installation process to bring onboard ticket validators to its entire statewide bus fleet. The devices allow customers using paper and mobile barcode tickets/passes to minimize personal contact with bus operators by scanning the barcode instead of handing the operator the ticket.

Gas Tax Going Up This Week, Double Hit to Commuters

Ridgewood NJ, The gas tax in New Jersey is increasing by 9.3 cents per gallon on Thursday, October 1. This will bring the gas tax total in New Jersey to 50.7 cents. Diesel will also be taxed by 57.7 cents per gallon. This is because less gas was sold in New Jersey during the 12 months ending in June 2020.
