Trenton Democrats Want to Make Drinking Coffee While Driving In N.J. Illegal

Ridgewood NJ , New Jersey Democrat Lawmakers are at it again ,and they want to take away your morning coffee. Under the guise of trying to crack down on distracted driving NJ Democrats are looking to ban anything that takes your hands off a steering wheel, including eating, drinking coffee.

Democrat lawmakers are currently pushing a bill, A-1908, that specifically prohibits a driver from engaging in any activity such as eating, drinking or using electronic devices not related to the operation of the vehicle. New Jersey already bans cellphone usage while driving.Violators could face fines from $200 to $400 for the first offense, $400 to $600 for a second offense and $600 to $800 for a third or subsequent offense. A third violation may also result in a driver’s license suspension of up to 90 days and a motor vehicle points penalty at the court’s discretion.

No surprise the bill is sponsored by Assemblyman John Wisniewski, a Democrat in Middlesex County, and Nicholas Chiaravalloti, a Democrat in Hudson County. The bill is modeled after a similar law in Maine that punishes drivers for using an electronic device, applying cosmetics or performing personal grooming while driving.
The bill was introduced early this year and has been referred to the Assembly Transportation and Independent Authorities Committee. No votes have been scheduled so far but its August and the only people left in Trenton are the people with no friends perhaps sizing up another opportunity to pick New Jersey tax payers pockets clean.
Democrat Wisniewski has pushed similar bills in the past, saying that, ” education is an important goal not ticketing everyone who drives.” Sure John and have I got a bridge to sell you.
Once again Trenton is in a desperate quest for funds and clearly willing to say or do anything to get into your pocket. Will they next announce that the “Coffee fines” will make up for the public pension short fall or fund the Transportation Slush Fund ,we mean Trust Fund. Stay tuned you cant make this stuff up.

POINT PLEASANT BEACH — Last month, Seaside Heights — still trying to repair a reputation colored by the antics of the cast of ‘Jersey Shore’ on MTV — moved to ban loud music on its beach.

Officials called it part of a continuing effort to reinforce their appeal as a family friendly place.

In Wildwood, elected officials have threatened greater enforcement effortstargeting noisy parties and underage drinking they say has gotten out of hand.

And don’t speed or park illegally in Point Pleasant Beach. You will almost certainly get ticketed.

The Jersey Shore — the real one, not the reality TV version — is an economic engine for the state, bringing in visitors, business and millions of tourism dollars every summer. But several communities say they are getting fed up with some of the bad behavior that often comes with the perception of being party towns, and are taking steps to change that image.

“We’re not targeting that ‘Jersey Shore’ crowd anymore,” said Christopher Vaz, borough administrator of Seaside Heights, where the likes of Snooki and JWowwand a cast of characters — in a summer house well-stocked with hair gel, suntan oil and alcohol — once brought no small amount of national and oft-times embarrassing publicity to the small Ocean County beach town.

“This is not a fist-pumping atmosphere anymore,” Vaz said

Rep Scott Garrett Continues to Push for Added Oil Train Safety in Bergen County

Ridgewood NJ, According to Rep. Scott Garrett we have seen an increase in the amount of oil trains travelling through our area, and many people have concerns about what this means for their homes and their families. Because of this, he recently hosted a meeting in Bergen County so town officials and local emergency coordinators could hear directly from federal regulators and representatives from the rail industry about efforts to ensure the safety of our communities.
Garret said ,”I believe it’s important that local officials and the public have access to this information, and we must keep these lines of communication open.”
And Garret Stressed , “I remain committed to hearing from all sides in order to continue my work on this important issue, and I’m looking forward to holding more meetings with New Jerseyans who have questions about train safety.”

Ridgewood NJ , new map shows $100 is not what it used to be ,this map shows how much $100 is worth in each state.

Prices for the same goods are often much cheaper in states like Missouri or Ohio than they are in states like New York or California. As a result, the same amount of cash can buy you comparatively more in a low-price state than in a high-price state.

The piece also explains what this means for people’s checkbooks and for public policy.

Fair Lawn NJ, Fair Lawn PD, EMS, and Heavy Rescue, along with a paramedic team from St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center, responded to a pedestrian vs. passenger vehicle collision at the intersection of Fair Lawn Avenue and Plaza Road, Fair Lawn, on Tuesday night, 08/02. The victim was transported to St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center with life threatening injuries. Police at the scene did not comment on whether the victim was in a crosswalk at the time contact was made, nor was there any information available regarding the issuance of a summons(es).

Glen Rock NJ, Investigators from multiple agencies working at the scene of unoccupied passenger vehicle fire in the parking lot of Superfresh, located at 937 Lincoln Avenue, Glen Rock on the afternoon of Wednesday, 08/03. An engine compartment fire, deemed as “suspicious” by Glen Rock PD, heavily damaged the 4-door sedan, which was later removed from the parking lot by a flatbed tow truck. Personnel from Glen Rock PD & FD, Hawthorne PD & FD, the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office, and the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office were all observed operating at the incident.

NJ Motor Vehicle Commission : Long Lines and Wait Times at Month End

Oakland NJ, recent wait times at the MVC are being blamed on  the fact that the newer MVC computer system seems to be overwhelming the antiquated state of NJ main frame system, causing all to frequent computer crashes .

The NJ MVC worked with Hewlett Packard in 2008 to develop the MATRX which was supposed to bring major technological upgrades to the agency, well it did but the state lags far behind.

The MVC began a transformation project in January 2015 after severing its ties with Hewlett Packard. The agency says that it will operations from the mainframe onto a cloud. The transition has not gone as smoothly as planed . The agency initaly spent $21 million on the up grade and followed up with another $16 million.

Currently the Agency is working on an effort to streamline the number of computer screens and windows to just one this should help move customers along faster.

Governor Chris Christie recommended customers not waiting till the last minute or the end of the month to visit the MVC. The lines are short and there is less chance of computer issues.

The agency also says that it also wants to promote their Skip the Trip program which allows drivers to renew their licenses from home.

Good morning everyone,

It has come to my attention that a “volunteer” is going door to door with a petition telling residents I do not support equal pay for women. Considering the fact that I am a female who has worked since the age of 14 the concept that I don’t support equal pay is ludicrous at best. I can only assume they are trying to pressure me to support a piece of proposed legislation for which I recently abstained. I abstained because as drafted the legislation would have created unnecessary costly litigation while further hurting New Jersey businesses. In particular the legislation would have retroactively imposed legal standards on companies without ever having given them an opportunity to comply. The result would have been tens of millions in lawyers pockets, not pay equality for women. Indeed I told the sponsors of the bill that if certain modifications were made they would have my support. Hawthorne NJ, Localized power outages occurred when a large evergreen tree fell in front of 70 Watchung Drive, Hawthorne on Saturday morning, 07/30. Portions of Watchung Drive were impassable for over two (2) hours. Electric power was restored by PSE&G crews after a tree service removed the fallen tree. There appeared to have been no damage to the home at 70 Watchung Drive. Hawthorne PD responded to the incident.

Pro-taxpayer Group Calls Letter a “Smoking Gun”

Trenton, N.J. – A letter from former DOT Commissioner Jamie Fox to legislators, obtained by Americans for Prosperity through an open public records request, confirms that the state is spending upwards of $2 million per mile on building, maintaining and operating its roadway system.

In the correspondence, delivered to Assemblyman Jay Webber (R-26) and Assemblywoman Amy Handlin (R-13) on March 20, 2015, Commissioner Fox acknowledged “…the cost per center line mile is $925,704 per mile.” Adding in New Jersey’s debt service, the state’s per mile road costs approximate the $2 million figure in Reason Foundation’s Highway Report.

“Commissioner Fox’s letter is a smoking gun which puts to rest any notion that New Jersey does not have an enormous, out-of-control transportation spending problem,” said AFP spokesman Mike Proto.“Lawmakers supporting this 23 cent per gallon gas tax hike, and debt-fueled $2 billion a year TTF spending plan, owe taxpayers answers and solutions, not more excuses. AFP once again calls on lawmakers to come together to address our transportation spending problem by making the structural reforms needed to ensure our transportation dollars are being spent prudently and efficiently.”

Paramus NJ, An 86-year-old Paramus woman was injured Thursday morning when a car hit her as she walked her dog, police said. The woman was in “guarded condition” at Hackensack University Medical Center, said a police spokesperson. A car backing out of a driveway near 392 Hickory Avenue around 11:30 a.m. struck her, said the spokesperson. The dog was not hurt. The driver did not receive any summons or charges at the scene but a spokesperson said the investigation was ongoing.
