Bergen County Freeholder David Ganz has agreed to serve as the next chairman when Democrats take control of the board in January.

Ganz, a Fair Lawn Democrat who is the senior freeholder with 10 years on the board, confirmed Friday that his Democratic colleagues have tapped him to serve as chairman and that Freeholder Joan Voss of Fort Lee to serve as vice-chairwoman.

“I hope that 2013 is a year of bipartisanship, of lower taxes and hard work by all the freeholders on the behalf of the people of Bergen County,” said Ganz, who has served longer than any Democrat in the history of the board.

The Democrats regained control of the board for the first time in two years with a 4-3 majority as a result of the Nov. 6 election of Tracy Silna Zur of Franklin Lakes and Steve Tanelli of North Arlington.

Village of Ridgewood Hurricane Sandy Updates – Nov 4, 2012 3PM

Ridgewood Village Hall theridgewoodblog.net 1

Village of Ridgewood Hurricane Sandy Updates – Nov 4, 2012 3PM

The Village of Ridgewood has completed nearly all tree removal work that DOES NOT involve PSE&G wires and that affects public streets. Just like you, the village is waiting for PSE&G to do their work. As expected, PSE&G disappointed all of us by failing to complete the restoration as promised last night. Residents are urged to contact PSE&G directly at 1-800-436-7734 to report individual problems. Calling repeatedly may help.

Halloween: A State of Emergency is still in effect. Unsafe conditions still exist around the Village. As it is still too unsafe for school, it is too unsafe to allow children out for Halloween. Please keep your children indoors.

Charging Station: Somerville School will be open Monday 10 AM – 3 PM to recharge cell phones and laptops. No wifi is available.

Day Time Warming Center: St. Elizabeth’s Church will be open as a warming center Monday – Friday 8:30 AM-6:00 PM. Emmanuel Baptist Church will also be open as a warming center Monday – Friday 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM. Please enter by the Hope Street entrance and use the bell on the left hand side of the door. MT. CARMEL’S SHELTER WILL BE CLOSED TONIGHT DUE TO A POWER OUTAGE THAT JUST OCCURRED. Bergen County’s Shelter in Mahwah is also available. It is located at 281 Campgaw Road, Mahwah, NJ.

Ice: Ice is available for Bergen County residents. Please report to Franklin Ave and Bender Ct in Franklin Lakes and park in VFW parking lot. Ice distribution will be until midnight tonight (Sunday, Nov. 4) and throughout the day tomorrow (Monday, Nov. 5).

Tree Branches: Tree branches ARE NOT ALLOWED IN THE STREET. If you have placed branches in the street, they MUST be removed. Please bring branches to the recycling center.

The conditions outdoors remain dangerous due to downed trees and power lines. Downed wires should always be considered “live.” Stay away from downed power lines. Do not approach or drive over a downed line and do not touch anything in contact with the wire.

For more information, continue to visit oem.ridgewoodnj.net and the Village of Ridgewood and Ridgewood Police Department Facebook pages for updates.

THE RECORD

After graduating from Barnard College, Julie Rosendorf did all the right things to find a good Jewish husband, dating the men her parents would approve of. But matters of the heart can take their own course; Rosendorf ended up falling in love with and marrying a college friend, a Catholic from Oklahoma.

Today Julie and Jay Don Johnson, of Franklin Lakes, are raising two boys: Jake, 9, and Jed, 5. Although Jay Don has not converted to Judaism, he’s on board with Julie’s desire to raise her sons in her faith. “I have a strong Jewish identity and I needed a commitment from him that we would raise our children Jewish,” said Julie, who chairs Barnert Temple’s Interfaith Group.

As Rosh Hashana — the Jewish New Year — begins tonight, commencing a 10-day period of spiritual reflection ending with Yom Kippur, a growing number of interfaith families will be navigating the tricky territory of observing the most sacred holidays on the Jewish calendar.

Bob Yudin, Anthony Rottino and John McCann run for Bergen County GOP chair
May 12,2012
the staff of the Ridgewood blog

Ridgewood NJ There is a 3 man race for chairman of the Bergen County Republican Organization .As of Thursday night’s deadline, Bob Yudin, Anthony Rottino and John McCann had all filed to run in the June 14 county committee election at the GOP headquarters in Hackensack also know as the BCRO.

Bob Yudin a Wyckoff appliance dealer and BCRO fixture is seeking his third term as chairman. He cited his record of erasing the organization’s debts and making the party competitive again. During the last four years while Yudin was chairman, he noted that the party has won the county executive’s and sheriff’s offices, has taken a 5-2 majority on the freeholder board and won a majority the county’s 70 municipalities.

Anthony Rottino is a Franklin Lakes business man who ran unsuccessfully last year for freeholder. He has vowed to end the infighting within the party and John McCann a Cresskill lawyer has served as general counsel to Sheriff Michael Saudino.

While Yudin harped on his accomplishments ,both McCann and Rottino focused on bringing the party together .Republican voters have been largely dissatisfied with the Bergen GOP and the BCRO for some time and the Bergen GOP  has been know to make more headlines for its in fighting than it leadership of the county. Many believe the BCRO should be disbanded and or shut down.

Garrett Announces 2012 Service Academy Nominees
Apr 5, 2012

MAHWAH, NJ – Rep. Scott Garrett (NJ-05) is proud to announce the nomination of 39 5th District high school students to United States service academies, including the Military Academy at West Point, the Naval Academy at Annapolis, the Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point and the Air Force Academy at Colorado Springs. This year’s nominees were honored by the Congressman at a ceremony at Ramapo College in Mahwah on Saturday, April 1st.

“I want to congratulate this year’s nominees and commend them for their hard work, perseverance and dedication during this year’s nominating process,” said Garrett after honoring the nominees. “If admitted, our prestigious service academies will develop these young men and women into some of our country’s greatest leaders.  No matter what the future holds, I am proud of their selfless dedication to serving our great country.  I wish the applicants all the best as they continue with the application process.”

Ridgewood Patch and Glen Rock Patch Merge

>Ridgewood Patch and Glen Rock Patch Merge
The staff of the Ridgewood blog
Wednesday ,December 14, 2011

(Ridgewood , NJ) Last week AOL’s “hyper local” online news network Patch consolidated 4 of its New Jersey local websites. The Patch in Ridgewood has now merged with Glen Rock and the Franklin Lakes Patch has been merged with Wycoff . Sources claim it was a business decision done to better serve both readers and advertisers.

However  Ad Age reports that Patch spokesperson Janine Iamunno said the decision was “editorially driven,” coming from editors who felt there was too much news overlap in the towns. Previously the Patch also reduced freelance budgets to make the sites more profitable.

AOL the parent company is under pressure from the recent merger with Huffington Post and is still struggling with how hyper local the Patch’s news coverage and and advertising should be.

>Small businesses are key to job creation, not government

>Small businesses are key to job creation, not government
BY U.S. Rep. SCOTT GARRETT
U.S. Rep. Scott Garrett

With New Jersey’s unemployment rate locked in at 9.2 percent, residents of the Garden State are all too familiar with the economic travails facing our country.
Understanding the challenges confronting job creators is a top priority of mine as I work to put my constituents back to work, which is why I recently took to the road for a tour of businesses in the 5th District to discuss job creation and the state of the economy with local business leaders.

From Franklin Lakes to Belvidere, I made stops across the district during my business tour. The topics I discussed along the way ranged from the costly effects of burdensome regulations to the lack of capital available to small-business owners to grow their businesses and hire new workers. While each business faces unique challenges, one word rang true in all my conversations: uncertainty.

Business owners are uncertain if their taxes are going to go up if the $1.6 trillion budget deficit isn’t handled in a responsible way. Businesses owners are uncertain if they will have the ability to access the capital they need to expand.

Businesses owners are uncertain about the cost of Obamacare and whether or not they will have to let employees go — much less hire new ones — because of increased health care costs.

Business owners are uncertain about rising compliance costs due to never-ending regulations from every level of government.

>Inaugural Ridgewood Octoberfest four-mile run a successful one

>Inaugural Ridgewood Octoberfest four-mile run a successful one

FRIDAY, OCTOBER 14, 2011
BY GAIL KISLEVITZ
CORRESPONDENT
THE RIDGEWOOD NEWS

RIDGEWOOD — The Ridgewood Running Company staged its first race Oct. 2, the Octoberfest 4-Mile Run, a fast, flat course that started and ended at Benjamin Franklin Middle School.

It was perfect weather for running on the streets through Ridgewood. The concept for the race started months ago when Beth O’Connor, manager of the Ridgewood running store, met with town officials for approval on the course and street closure.

The original course included East Ridgewood Avenue and the downtown business area, but was not approved. A police officer suggested the approved course which started at East Glen and North Van Dien avenues, continued south and around the cemetery and then north on Franklin Turnpike, eventually turning left on Northern Parkway, another left on East Glen and then a second loop of the same course.

The course was certified by USATF-NJ and was a Grand Prix 500-point event. Prizes were given to the top three male and female finishers, the first male and female Ridgewood residents and the top three male and female winners in 10-year age divisions.

Proceeds from the race were donated to breast cancer research and Ridgewood Track and Field. The Market Basket in Franklin Lakes provided the post-race refreshments. Local sponsors included Greson Jewelers, Ridgewood Coin and Stamp and New York Sports Club.
