New Apartment Building Going Up on the Corner of Main and Passaic Streets in Downtown Hackensack

Hackensack NJ, plans for a 110-unit, mixed-use apartment building at the corner of Main and Passaic streets are moving forward after the sale of two properties in the heart of downtown Hackensack. Last January the city Planning Board approved site plans for the project at 359 and 375 Main St., which currently house a vacant bank building and a multi-tenant office building. The Greater Alliance Federal Credit Union had vacated the property for its new Hackensack location on Hudson Street in 2021.

A National and State Historic Landmark in Hackensack, is in Crisis

A national and state historic landmark in Hackensack, NJ is in crisis.

The USS Ling, a Balao class submarine that served our nation in WWII is stuck in the mud in the Hackensack River in Hackensack, NJ.

The submarine has been at its present location since 1973 when the title was transferred to the Submarine Memorial Association who operated a museum at the site.

Two Car Collison at the Intersection of Essex Street and State Street in Hackensack Sends Occupants to Hackensack University Medical Center

Hackensack NJ, at approximately 2:25pm City of Hackensack Fire Department Engine 4, Rescue 1 and Deputy 1 responded to the intersection of Essex Street and State Street on reported motor vehicle accident with entrapment. On arrival they found a two car motor vehicle accident with two people still in one vehicle. Rescue 1 began setting up extrication equipment and Engine 4 stretched a precautionary hand line. Both occupants inside the vehicle were able to self evacuate. The occupants were transported to HUMC with non life threatening injuries. Rescue 1 and Engine 4 remained on scene and applied absorbent to minor fluid spill. On duty city tow removed both vehicles. This intersection has been the scene of a series of mishaps over the years with residents saying there needs to be a left turn light Essex Street and State Street.

Fire in Hackensack Displaces Several Residents on Christmas Morning

Hackensack NJ, at 1232am members of the City of Hackensack Fire Department Second Platoon were dispatched to 64 Prospect Ave on activated fire alarm. While in route dispatch received multiple 9-1-1 calls from residents reporting a fire. Units arrived on scene and found a working fire in apartment B5 on the second floor. This quickly escalated to a 3rd alarm due to multiple rescue of residents on the fire escape including two children whose parents dropped them into the arms of firefighters below. The fire was quickly extinguished by an aggressive interior attack coupled with multiple rescues of residents on the Fire escape all with 18 on duty firefighters and assistance from mutual aid. No injuries were reported several residents were displaced and went to stay with relatives. The Red Cross assisted other residents. The fire under investigation by fire prevention.

Vehicle loses Control Strikes Steps of Passaic Street Building in Hackensack Causing Exterior Damage

Hackensack NJ, members of the City of Hackensack Fire Department third platoon and Police department responded to 213 Passaic Street today on reported motor vehicle accident. On arrival found vehicle lost control coming around the corner struck the steps causing exterior damage to the building. Both occupants of the vehicle refused medical treatment, building department responded and vehicle was removed by city towing company.

Hackensack NJ, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrest of ANDERSON CASILLA FURCAL (DOB: 05/31/1997; single; unemployed) of 145 Chilton Hall, Apartment A-2, Elizabeth, NJ, on a charge of receiving stolen property.  The arrest is the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Chief Jason Love.

Hackensack NJ, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrests of DIOR ALSTON (DOB: 08/28/2001; single; laborer) of 37 Agar Place, South Hackensack, NJ and MALIK ABEL (DOB: 03/11/2001; single; electrician) of 356 Maywood Avenue, Maywood, NJ on charges of murder, attempted murder, conspiracy to commit murder, possession of a firearm for an unlawful purpose, unlawful possession of a handgun and stalking; and RAYSHAWN POWEL-MYHAND (DOB: 10/01/2003; single; cashier) of 95 Railroad Avenue, Apt. B4, Hackensack, NJ on charges of hindering apprehension. The arrests are the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Chief Jason Love and the Hackensack Police Department under the direction of Officer-in-Charge Captain Michael Antista.

Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Identifies Victim in Hackensack Homicide

Hackensack NJ, the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit and the Hackensack Police Department are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred in the area of Essex Street & Lehigh Street in Hackensack, NJ on Saturday, November 12, 2022, around 5:00 p.m. The Hackensack Police Department responded to a report of shots fired at that location with two victims shot. Responding officers found two male victims, each with a gunshot wound.

Responding Hackensack Police Officers found one male victim who sustained a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.  A second victim, 28-year-old Vidal R. Nieves, was transported to Hackensack University Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased from a gunshot wound.

Shooting in Hackensack Leaves One Dead

Hackensack NJ, one person was killed and another injured in a Saturday early evening shooting in Hackensack, officials said. According to  the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office the two men were shot near Essex and Lehigh streets at around 5 p.m. Both were taken to Hackensack University Medical Center where one was pronounced dead. The other victim had non-life threatening injuries.

Hackensack Police Officers Talk Teen off Parking Deck Ledge

Hackensack NJ, on Wednesday November 9, 2022, at approximately 09:00 A.M., Hackensack Police officers , Det. Chris Lara Nunez, P.O. Frank Caneja, P.O. Matthew Debonis, and Sgt. Kley Peralta responded to 170 Prospect Avenue on a report of an individual threatening to jump off the parking deck. Officers located a male juvenile on the ledge of the parking deck who appeared to be in emotional distress. Det. Lara Nunez and P.O. Caneja immediately began speaking with the juvenile, utilizing de-escalation skills and crisis intervention training to build a rapport with the juvenile. They were able to successfully speak to the juvenile, and subsequently rescued the juvenile off the ledge to safety. The juvenile was then transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Hackensack Council Alleged to have Dropped the Ball on $2.4 Million Firefighter Grant

Hackensack NJ, Professional Firefighters Association of New Jersey is accusing the Hackensack City Council of refusing $2.4 MILLION GRANT TO HIRE ADDITIONAL FIREFIGHTERS. On Tuesday November 1st at 7PM Hackensack they are encouraging residents to attend the next city council meeting, to directly ask city leaders why they are not accepting the $2.4 million federal grant to add 12 firefighters to our department. Increasing staffing will make Hackensack a safer community for all. Please attend the city council meeting to support the safety of yourself, your neighbors and your firefighters.

Vehicle Struck by Passenger Train at the Central Ave Crossing in Hackensack

Hackensack NJ, on 10/15/2022 at 2346 hours Deputy 3, Engine 4 and Rescue 1 of the City of Hackensack Fire Department were dispatched to a report of vehicle struck by passenger train at the Central Avenue crossing. Deputy 3 arrived on scene and confirmed victim was heavily entrapped. Firefighters from Rescue 1 and Engine 4 worked for approximately 30 minutes stretching a dry line to protect rescue operations and removing the roof of the vehicle. Engine 1 was dispatched to assist and one victim was extricated and turned over to ALS and BLS for treatment and transport to HUMC. N.J. Transit police are investigating.

Three Teens Stabbed in Hackensack

Hackensack NJ, a student fight initially reported on First Street near Hackensack High School. Led to a Hackensack University Medical Center to contact Hackensack Police headquarters and report that the three teenagers were being treated as a result of a stabbing with non-life threatening injuries.
. The teenagers, one 16-year-old from Garfield and two 18-year-olds from Hackensack, were not students of Hackensack High School, and according to police the incident did not occur in the high school.
