Hackensack will Build on a Municipal Parking Lot to Meet its Affordable Housing Obligations

Hackensack NJ, a Superior Court judge ruled last week that the city of Hackensack  will meet its remaining affordable housing obligations with the construction of a new apartment building on a municipal lot just off Main Street . The project includes 60 units of low- and moderate-income housing units.

Sunday Moring Fire in Hackensack Leaves One Firefighter and One occupant Injured

Hackensack NJ, on Sunday April 3rd @08:11 Hackensack Fire Desk received a 911 call reporting a fire at 99  Fair Street. While companies were responding Deputy 4 reported smoke from a distance and requested a 2nd alarm. Upon arrival companies were met with heavy smoke and fire conditions on the 2nd floor of the home with fire extending into the attic. Companies put several handlines in service to begin knocking down fire on the 2nd floor and to protect the house next door. Ladder 1 and rescue 1 conducted searches and began to open up the 2nd floor ceilings to gain access to the attic. Fire extended to the attic area due to limited access.

The arrest is the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Chief Jason Love.

Shelter in Place Order Once Again Lifted at Hackensack High School

Hackensack NJ, for the second time this week the Hackensack Police Department gave  the “All Clear” and the shelter in place order has been lifted at Hackensack High School , everyone is safe and schools will resume normal operations.

Fire Destroys One Apartment in Hackensack

Hackensack NJ, City of Hackensack Fire Department answered a call at 227 Prospect Avenue 2 alarm fire . Fire was contained to one apartment which sustained heavy damage. No reported injuries at this time to civilians or firefighters. Hackensack fire prevention has started an investigation .Englewood Fire 3rd Platoon Truck 1 also responded to the City of Hackensack for the second multi-alarm fire.

Building Damaged and Two reported injuries in Multi Vehicle Crash in Hackensack

Hackensack NJ, according to the City of Hackensack Fire Department ,on Friday March 18 @10am Members of the 4th Platoon responded to Main and Davis for Three vehicle motor vehicle accident. One vehicle struck 20 Zabriskie Street causing significant damage to the building. Two reported injuries were treated by Hackensack BLS . Hackensack police is currently conducting the investigation. No additional information at this time.

One Firefighter was Injured in Hackensack Condo Fire

Hackensack NJ, according to Hackensack Fire Department, on Sunday, March 20th @1932 hours members of the second platoon were dispatched to 105 State Street for a report of smoke in a second floor apartment. First arriving companies were met with smoke on the second and third floor with fire showing in the rear of the building and also for the roof area.

EPA Proposes to Add Lower Hackensack River in Bergen and Hudson Counties, New Jersey to Superfund List

Hackensack NJ, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced that it is adding 12 sites and proposing to add another five, including the Lower Hackensack River, to the Superfund National Priorities List (NPL). The federal NPL includes sites where releases of contamination pose significant human health and environmental risks.

Hackensack High School Temporally Evacuated Friday Morning

Hackensack NJ,  students were sent back to class at Hackensack High School after being evacuated Friday morning. The school was evacuated due to a police investigation, the district and police announced.
The district asked parents and guardians not to come to any schools or evacuation sites until being notified.

Hackensack NJ, Anna Sorokin, who was convicted on fraud charges for posing as heiress Anna Delvey, was released from prison in February 2021 but taken into U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) custody on a detainer six weeks later. Sorokin is now 31 and remains in ICE custody while she waits to see whether she will be deported to Germany.

Hackensack NJ, the Greater Bergen County YMCA, a branch of the Metropolitan YMCA of the Oranges located at 360 Main St. in Hackensack, is under contract for sale with a development partner. While the Y will be relocating many of its programs and services effective March 31, 2022, it will continue to operate its School Age Child Care programs in Hackensack schools.

Fallen Power Line Engulfs Two Cars in Flames in Hackensack

Hackensack NJ, City of Hackensack Fire Department 3rd platoon responded to several cars on fire on Arcadia Road due to a power line down. Fire Companies had to wait for the arrival of PSEG to secure power before extinguishing the cars on fire. No damage reported to any buildings. Time of incident 1:15 am on Thursday the 18th with no reported injuries.
