New Jersey Becomes Sanctuary State

Ridgewood NJ, New Jersey Attorney General Gurbir Grewal today announced amendments to the New Jersey Immigrant Trust Directive that will end wholesale New Jersey’s participation in 287(g) agreements, which invite discrimination by deputizing local law enforcement to become federal immigration agents. The changes to the directive also add two carve-outs to the concerning list of exceptions in which law enforcement can ask about immigration status.

New Jersey is one of the first states to sever ties with the 287(g) program.

NJ Man Denied Job at Six Flags Amusement Park Faces Weapons Charges

Jackenson Twp NJ, Authorities charged an Allentown (Monmouth County) man who was denied employment at an Ocean County amusement park after they said he had multiple weapons in his vehicle and at his home. Jonathan Fruchter, 38, sought a job at Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson on August 29, but police said he was escorted out of the theme park because he acted irrationally and asked questions about security protocols.

Quinnipiac Poll: Post-Debate, Warren Up, Harris Down, Biden Leads and Booker flops

Ridgewood NJ, Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren is the big winner in the second round of Democratic presidential debates, but former Vice President Joseph Biden retains his front-runner status with 32 percent of Democrats and independent voters who lean Democratic, according to a Quinnipiac University National Poll released today.

Sen. Elizabeth Warren has 21 percent among Democrats, with 14 percent for Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders and 7 percent for California Sen. Kamala Harris.

This compares to results of a July 29 survey by the independent Quinnipiac (KWIN-uh- pe-ack) University National Poll, showing Biden with 34 percent, Warren with 15 percent, Harris with 12 percent and Sanders with 11 percent.

Mexican national in US illegally is charged in child’s death while driving without a license in New Jersey

Egg Harbor NJ, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) officers have arrested a Mexican national charged by the Egg Harbor Township Police Department for causing death while driving without a license, a 3rd degree felony, July 11, 2019. Jorge Rodriguez-Saldana, 30, was driving a vehicle that struck a grandmother and her two grandchildren, killing the seven-year-old child and critically injuring the grandmother.

June ’19 Jobs Report – Modest Job Growth & Shrinking Workforce Drives New Jersey Unemployment Rate Lower

MORRISTOWN NJ, Following in the wake of the U.S. economy adding 224,000 jobs in June, New Jersey’s economy added 9,600 private sector and 600 government sector jobs in June, according to Garden State Initiative (GSI) analysis of the newest jobs numbers issued by the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The Garden State’s workforce declined in June, the 2^nd straight month of a reduction, with the state’s workforce remaining below 2008 levels. The combination of increased employment and shrinking workforce led the unemployment rate .3% lower to 3.5%.

The state’s workforce shrank by 4,000 individuals in June, the second consecutive month of declines. The state’s average workforce of 4,443,100 in the month, remains below the average annual workforce size of 4,504,400 at the start of the Great Recession in 2008, a decline of 1.3%. The current national workforce has increased 5.6% over the same time period.

Old Bridge Councilman Razzoli: Enforcing Federal Laws is a Duty, Not a Choice

When the governor and state legislature think they are arbiters of constitutional analysis, there is an intrinsic problem. There is nothing that has been debated since the Civil War that allows for the cherry picking of which federal laws to enforce, and which to opt out of because they don’t happen to agree with our current agendas.

When New Jersey’s Attorney General calls for sheriffs across our state to ignore federal immigration laws, and when the Governor and his soldiers rally behind him, it once again validates that New Jersey is on a slippery slope toward political anarchy.

New Bill Requires Training for Judges & Court Personnel to Improve Treatment of Sexual Assault Survivors

Totowa NJ, Following her call yesterday for increased training for New Jersey judges on dealing with sexual assault survivors in their courtrooms, Senator Kristin Corrado will introduce legislation that requires the judiciary to develop and implement such a training program. Additionally, the legislation sets minimum standards to ensure the training is thorough, and requires it to be conducted annually.

Senator Joe Pennacchio (R-26) is calling for action to end golden parachutes for New Jersey University Employees

New Brunswick NJ, Senator Joe Pennacchio (R-26) called for legislative action on his bill to end golden parachute payouts following news that Rutgers University is granting a $480,000 payout to the hastily departing New Brunswick campus Chancellor for a one-year sabbatical.

“The state’s largest public research university is forking over nearly half-a-million dollars to pay for an early departing administrator’s one-year vacation,” Pennacchio said. “This handout is a gross misuse by Rutgers of the tuition they receive from students and the tax dollars they receive from the State. Every dollar Rutgers wastes on these payouts is a dollar not spent on teaching and research. With tuition and student debt on the rise, I am calling for the State Legislature to take action to end this fiscally-irresponsible practice.”

President Congratulates New Jersey Legislature for Finally Not Raising Taxes

Washington DC, President Donald Trump this morning extended congratulations to the New Jersey Legislature for not affirming Gov. Phil Murphy’s budget, and not raising taxes yet again on New Jersey cash strapped residents .

“Congratulations to legislators in New Jersey for not passing taxes that would have driven large numbers of high end taxpayers out of the state,” Trump tweeted. “Many were planning to leave, & will now be staying. New York & others should start changing their thought process on taxes, fast!”

In his tweet the President reminded New Jersey politicians why so many tax payers and businesses have fled the state ,debasing the state tax base .

Trenton NJ, As the Democrat-controlled Legislature advances their $38.7 billion budget without Gov. Murphy’s controversial millionaire’s tax, the likelihood of a government shutdown over the proposed spending plan increases. Murphy and union leaders held a press conference yesterday to pressure lawmakers to include the tax on those making over $1 million, but their efforts remain unsuccessful.

“The Democrats refuse to back down and the governor has said he is leaving all options on the table in order to get his tax hike. The fighting continues and the budget deadline is getting closer, which means so is a shutdown,” said Assemblywoman Holly Schepisi who sponsors legislation to prevent a government shutdown.

Murphy Moves to Tax Hot Air

TRENTON NJ, Fulfilling his promise to restore New Jersey’s national leadership in the fight against climate change and sea-level rise, Governor Phil Murphy today announced that the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) has formally adopted two rules returning New Jersey to the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI). New Jersey was a charter member of RGGI before Governor Christie withdrew the state from the compact in 2012.“Climate change and sea-level rise affect us all, and as a coastal state, New Jersey is especially vulnerable to the impacts of global warming,” said Governor Murphy.
