Swarm of Honey Bees Forced the Temporary Suspension of Outdoor Dining at Raymond’s Restaurant

Ridgewood NJ, A swarm of approximately 15,000 honey bees forced the temporary suspension of outdoor dining at Raymond’s Restaurant and disrupted pedestrian traffic in a portion of downtown Ridgewood on Saturday afternoon, 06/01. Local beekeeper Frank Mortimer successfully dispersed the swarm. No injuries were reported. Ridgewood Police, Ridgewood Emergency Services, and two (2) representatives of the Ridgewood Parks Department responded to the incident.

The Ridgewood Police wisely kept their distance while the Bee keeper Frank Mortimer did his work .

Ridgewood NJ, About 200 residents and friends attended the annual Memorial Day celebration conducted by American Legion Post 53 at Ridgewood’s Van Neste Square Memorial Park. 2019 is the American Legion’s 100th anniversary as a veterans organization, and Post 53’s 100th anniversary as an American Legion post.

Ridgewood Maroons Reach County Finals for the First Time in 32 years

Demarest NJ, Getting a three-run burst in the fifth inning was all it took , for the ninth-seeded Ridgewood Maroons ,earned a 3-0 shutout win in a game dominated by pitching over fifth-seeded St. Mary of Rutherford in the semifinal round of the Bergen County Tournament on Saturday at Demarest.

This ends a Ridgewood’s  32-year drought for the Maroons reaching Bergen County Tournament final . The Maroons will take on St, Joseph at Saturday May 25th 1 pm at home.

The Valley Hospital Earns an “A” for Patient Safety

Ridgewood NJ, The Valley Hospital is proud to have been recognized with an “A” grade for patient safety for the fourteenth time from The Leapfrog Group‘s Spring 2019 Hospital Safety Grade. Valley was one of 832 hospitals—or the top third—to receive an “A,” ranking it among the safest hospitals in the United States. Valley was the only hospital in Bergen County to receive this prestigious distinction. 

The Leapfrog Group’s Hospital Safety Grade assigns an A, B, C, D or F grade to hospitals across the country based on their performance in preventing medical errors, infections and other harms among patients in their care.

Ridgewood Library Foundation Donations Used to Fund Preliminary Design of Reimange Project

Ridgewood NJ, the cumulative fees paid to architects for the Ridgewood Public Library Reimagine Project are $65,270 .

In 2016-2018 the library hired Peter Gisolfi Associates a preliminary design and cost estimates to update the library interior . Gisolfi received the bulk of the $65,270 of $55,620 for the work with $45,501 paid for thru private donations.

Ridgewood Emergency Service Volunteers Holiday Weekend

Ridgewood NJ, Come by Ridgewood Emergency Services at 8 am on Saturday April 27 to help the volunteers, along with Ridgewood Department of Parks and Recreation for a Spring cleanup of the grounds. Green thumbs most welcomed.   Also, meet members and find out more about Volunteering at Ridgewood Emergency Services

While most of the Village residents were enjoying the holiday weekend at home with their friends and families, the volunteers of Ridgewood Emergency Services were busy responding to requests for medical assistance throughout the Village.  According to Acting Chief Ryan Savaria, there were a total of 11 EMS calls and one request for Special Operations. “This is an average amount of requests “ stated Savaria. While not responding to calls, the volunteers perform routine checks of all equipment, supplies and making sure that they are ready for the next call. In 2018, RES resonded to over 1650 calls for medical assistance.

Ridgewood NJ, Ridgewood Fire Department personnel assisted Ridgewood Police on Saturday morning, 04/20, by clearing two (2) storm drains on Route 17 southbound near Paramus Road that had caused hazardous flooding on several lanes of the highway after a heavy morning downpour.

Ridgewood NJ, Shred Day in Ridgewood will take place on Saturday, April 13, at the Graydon Pool Parking Lot from 9:00 A.M. to 12:30 P.M., Rain or Shine. Residents will be able to watch their documents on camera as they are securely shredded by Information Destruction Systems, which will then be recycled by Atlantic Coast Fibers.  Limit of five 5 file-size boxes per vehicle.  Free to all Ridgewood residents and businesses only.  Place items for shredding in a paper bag or a cardboard box.  No plastic bags will be allowed.
