Sussex County Freeholders Vote to Reopen County

Newton NJ , The members of the Sussex County Board of Chosen Freeholders voted unanimously at their Wednesday night meeting on resolutions urging Governor Phil Murphy to fully reopen Sussex
County businesses in the near future; and a resolution against the increase in taxes and fees on firearms and ammunitions.

“I am very concerned that we will have a poor survival rate of many of our businesses,” said Freeholder Herbert Yardley. “I find it very unfortunate there was not an opportunity to say, ‘Let’s
see if it (a regional reopening) works.’”

Juneteenth is Now a State and Public Holiday

TRENTON NJ, Governor Phil Murphy today signed legislation (S19), which designates the third Friday in June as a State and public holiday, known as Juneteenth Day. Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865, when Union General Gordon Granger rode into Galveston, Texas to inform enslaved people of the 1863 Emancipation Proclamation and their freedom.

River Vale NJ, Assemblywomen Holly Schepisi ,”Only in New Jersey could we increase spending by BILLIONS, borrow BILLIONS in dollars because we allegedly can’t pay our increased spending, increase the gas tax during a pandemic to the fourth highest gas tax in the nation, cut programs like mental health services for at risk youth (a program that has been in place since the 1980s and has assisted children with mental health, employment, pregnancy prevention, drug abuse education and more) and then announce a program to give free cash starting next year to anyone who gives birth.
It is the equivalent of paying for your neighbor’s HULU account so they can watch Handmaid’s Tale while your own home is in foreclosure. The State of NJ is proposing to borrow money at a cost of $80 million in interest payments to the tax payers in this State in order to issue free “Baby Bonds” that will yield only a 1.35% return over 18 years or an approximate total of $21.6 million in interest. How does this make any sense whatsoever?”

CPA’s Say Commercial Cannabis Industry Will Help New Jersey’s Economy

Roseland NJ, Having a commercial cannabis industry in New Jersey will help the state’s economy, according to 66 percent of the 924 certified public accountants (CPAs) surveyed in August by the New Jersey Society of Certified Public Accountants (NJCPA). The majority (68 percent) of respondents either “strongly agree” or “somewhat agree” that New Jersey lawmakers need to take steps to mitigate the impact of federal regulations on the industry, such as the inability to deduct business expenses.

New Jersey Turnpike Authority Removes American Flags From Overpasses on the Eve of September 11th

Trenton NJ, the New Jersey Turnpike Authority acknowledged last week it has removed flags from highway overpasses,The move has upset veterans groups and at least one police union in the days before the anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. Senator Declan O’Scanlon and Assemblywoman Serena DiMaso (both R-Monmouth) today condemned the misguided removal of American flags by the New Jersey Turnpike Authority (NJTA) from highway overpasses and moved forward with legislation to unequivocally allow them to be flown.

We have heard that the Governor has intervened and reversed the decision but we can not confirm.

Trenton NJ, The four Republican members of the Senate Budget & Appropriations Committee offered a path to a balanced State Budget for 2021 that does not rely on the billions of dollars of borrowing and tax increases proposed by Governor Phil Murphy.

The Republican plan was proposed in a letter (click here for PDF) to the majority Senate Democrats from Senate Republican Budget Officer Steven Oroho (R-24), Senator Sam Thompson (R-12), Senator Declan O’Scanlon (R-13), and Senator Michael Testa (R-1).

Trenton NJ, Business groups today urged Gov. Phil Murphy and the Legislature to work toward a more fiscally responsible FY 2021 budget that recognizes New Jersey’s economic realities.

Among the calls made by the groups were the elimination of $1 billion in new taxes and a large reduction of $4 billion in borrowing proposed by Governor Murphy.

This election year, millions of Americans will donate to the political candidates and initiatives of their choice at the local, state, and federal levels. But for unionized workers, union dues come out of their paychecks and go to political causes—and they aren’t consulted on where that money will go.

In July, The Wall Street Journal’s Tom McGinty and Brody Mullins published an eye-opening report that “Organized labor spends about four times as much on politics and lobbying as generally thought.”

Trenton NJ, Senator Steven Oroho has sent a letter to Senator Paul Sarlo, chairman of the Senate Budget and Appropriations Committee, calling for at least one Senate Budget Committee meeting to be open to public testimony. The public is currently not allowed to attend any of the Budget hearings. Committee members, invitees, and staff will participate from remote locations using video conferencing technology. The public may view the meeting through the State Legislatures homepage.

Reader says, “it is a federal offense to employ someone who lacks the proper immigration status”

“This so-called legislation is just vote winning puffery: any person wishing to work in the US still has to comply with Federal immigration laws.

Thus it is a federal offense to employ someone who lacks the proper immigration status, just as it is an offense to gain employment for an illegal alien. Ignorance of the law is no defense.

Besides being unlawful and unpatriotic, the Democrat’s are using illegals as cannon fodder to gain votes, and don’t care a jot about the fate of any illegals who work, or employers who employ them.

In any case, how on earth can anyone this bull was aimed at, legal or illegal, gain employment if the businesses are being strangled by Murphy et al?”
