Murphy’s Marijuana Legalization Social Justice Rhetoric Goes Up in Smoke When You Follow the Money

Trenton NJ, Senator Robert Singer said it’s clear when you follow the money that Governor Phil Murphy’s interest in marijuana legalization has little to do with improving social justice.

“If improving social justice was truly the Governor’s goal, he could have supported the legislation that I sponsor with Senator Rice to decriminalize the possession of small amounts of marijuana,” said Singer (R-Monmouth). “That would prevent both arrests and incarceration, solving the social justice problem for most people. We could have done that a year ago. The fact that Governor Murphy never truly considered decriminalization tells you that money, not social justice, is the driving force behind the movement to legalize the recreational use of marijuana in New Jersey.”

Proposal to Legalize and Regulate Marijuana Advances

TRENTON NJ, A proposal to legalize and regulate marijuana for adults 21 and older advanced in the New Jersey Legislature Monday. The Senate Budget and Appropriations Committee approved S2703, sponsored by Senator Nicholas Scutari, (7-2-4), and the Assembly Appropriations Committee approved A4497, sponsored by Assemblywoman Annette Quijano, (6-1-2). The measures will now go to the full chambers for a vote. Gov. Phil Murphy has expressed strong support for legalizing and regulating marijuana for adult use.

Senate Republican Leader Tom Kean : Democrats’ Redistricting Amendment About Cementing Their Control, Limiting Voter Choice

Trenton NJ, Senate Republican Leader Tom Kean said a constitutional amendment (SCR-43) being fast-tracked by Democrats is designed to make legislative elections less competitive while cementing permanent Democratic majorities in the New Jersey Legislature.

“The constitutional amendment proposed by New Jersey Democrats is not about making our elections fairer or legislative districts more competitive,” said Kean. “This sham of an amendment is about power. It’s about Democrats who have controlled the Legislature for nearly two decades trying to cement their power by permanently rigging the election process in their favor.”
Democrats first attempted to pass the amendment, then SCR-188/ACR-4, in late 2015 and early 2016.

Passaic NJ, The New Jersey Department of Health is warning residents of additional exposures associated with an outbreak of measles— a highly contagious disease—in Ocean County.
A highly suspect case of measles associated with the Ocean County outbreak has potentially exposed individuals in Passaic County. This Passaic County resident could have exposed others to the infection while in Passaic County between November 17 and November 18.

Days After Snow Storm Debacle Murphy Administration Offers Free Legal to Illegal Aliens

Trenton NJ, just a few days after the massive failure of the Murphy Administration to prepare for the area’s first major snow storm , stranding thousands of motorist ,horror stories abound of people stuck on highways for hours and hours and of kids spending the night in their schools. Tales of commuters leaving work at 4 p.m. and getting home near midnight are common. The storm effected just about everyone, even the high-and-mighty. Chris Christie tweeted that it took him nearly six hours to journey from Piscataway to his home in Mendham.

Following through on Governor Phil Murphy’s budget initiative, the Department of the Treasury today announced that it has allocated $2.1 million in supplemental funding to help provide legal representation for residents facing immigration issues.

New Jersey Acknowledges Historic Recognition of the Nanticoke Lenni-Lenape Nation, Agrees to Pay Tribe $2.4 Million

Trenton NJ,  Attorney General Gurbir S. Grewal announced today a settlement with the Nanticoke Lenni-Lenape Tribal Nation under which the State acknowledges it has officially recognized the 3,000-member Tribe as an American Indian Tribe since 1982.

In addition to affirming its historic recognition of the Nanticoke Lenni-Lenape Nation, the State will pay the Tribe a total of $2.4 million under the settlement agreement.
The State has also agreed to formally notify all relevant state and federal agencies of the Tribe’s official recognition status.

PARSIPPANY NJ, Due to the poor preparedness and response to the State’s first snowstorm of 2018, hundreds of thousands of residents across the state were stranded on major highways that were not prepared, plowed, salted or cleared for upwards of over twelve hours. Despite the fact that the snowstorm was predicted 3-4 days before it hit, there was still little to nothing done to prepare for the turmoil and danger the storm caused.

“While the Governor was partying at the League of Municipalities in Atlantic City, our friends and neighbors were stuck on NJ highways for up to 14 hours in some areas. The danger and havoc that the lack of preparation caused on residents should be unforgivable. This is what happens when people vote on emotion and not practicality. You elect people into office that have no experience or right being there”, said Morris County Chair Ron DeFilippis.

New Jersey State Police have responded to 555 motor vehicle crashes

Trenton NJ, As of 9:30 p.m., the New Jersey State Police have responded to 555 motor vehicle crashes and 1,027 motorist aids in NJSP patrolled areas since midnight.

Yesterday  the New Jersey Office of Emergency Management (NJOEM) activated the State Emergency Operations Center at 7:00 a.m. this morning in order to monitor the winter storm conditions expected to last through Friday. NJOEM has been in contact with all 21 counties and members of the Emergency Response Bureau are working with their counties to address any storm related needs. State Emergency Management Partners have been notified and will continue to coordinate with NJOEM on any traffic and power concerns.

Lakewood NJ, The New Jersey Department of Health is warning residents about 6 confirmed cases of measles—a highly contagious disease— who could have possibly exposed others to the infection while in Ocean County between October 13 and November 1, 2018. These individuals developed symptoms after being exposed to an individual who acquired measles while traveling internationally. The New Jersey Department of Health is considering this to be an outbreak of measles in the community.

Trenton Lawmakers Back Bills to Boost Apprenticeships

Trenton NJ,  A wide-ranging plan to make apprenticeships more accessible for New Jersey residents particularly in high growth industries was introduced in the Senate. The 10 bills sponsored by Senate Education Committee Chair M. Teresa Ruiz are in collaboration with the New Jersey Institute for Social Justice and are based on its report released September 6, 2018 entitled “Becoming the United States of Opportunity: the Economic Equity and Growth Case for Apprenticeships.” This report highlighted how apprenticeship programs can strengthen our economy and advance economic opportunity by connecting residents—particularly women and people of color—to living wage careers.
