>RIDGEWOOD PUBLIC SCHOOLS :ANNUAL PARENT SURVEY TARGETED FOR NEXT WEEK

>RIDGEWOOD PUBLIC SCHOOLS :ANNUAL PARENT SURVEY TARGETED FOR NEXT WEEK

Once again, the Ridgewood Public Schools will be conducting a survey to determine parent/guardian opinions on a variety of topics related to the district. A similar survey was last conducted last June, at the end of the 2009-2010 school year.

The purpose of the brief survey is to gather parent and guardian’s opinions on district schools and the education Ridgewood students receive. The survey is divided into five sections: school climate, academics, extracurricular activities, facilities and communications. Also included is a section covering the Skyward student information system, newly implemented this school year. The data collected will be shared with the community and will be used by the Board of Education as part of its evaluation of district policies and practices.

Parents will be receiving the surveys next week via e-mail. They will receive one e-mail for each school their children attend, which will include a link to access the survey. Parents will be instructed to complete only one survey for each school that their children are enrolled, regardless of the number of children attending a particular school. For example, if a household has two children enrolled at a district elementary school and one child at the high school, links to two surveys will be send to each parent.

Responses to survey questions will remain completely confidential.

A dedicated e-mail address has been set up to take questions or concerns at [email protected].

>Jobless claims jump points to slowing recovery

>Jobless claims jump points to slowing recovery

On Thursday May 5, 2011, 5:00 pm EDT
By Lucia Mutikani

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The number of Americans filing for jobless aid rose to an eight-month high last week and productivity growth slowed in the first quarter, clouding the outlook for an economy that is struggling to gain speed.

While the surprise jump in initial claims for unemployment benefits was blamed on factors ranging from spring break layoffs to the introduction of an emergency benefits program, economists said it corroborated reports this week indicating a loss of momentum in job creation.

New claims for state jobless benefits rose 43,000 to 474,000, the highest since mid-August, the Labor Department said on Thursday. Economists had expected claims to fall.

>Today marks a major victory for the people of the United States and the forces of freedom and justice all over the world

Dear Friends,

Today marks a major victory for the people of the United States and the forces of freedom and justice all over the world. We are grateful for the bravery of the Americans who raided the compound near Islamabad and killed Osama bin Laden. We are also grateful to the men and women of America’s intelligence services who, through their interrogation of high-value detainees, developed the information that apparently led us to bin Laden. The war goes on and al Qaeda continues to plot and plan against us. We must remain vigilant and we must continue to provide our men and women in uniform and our intelligence professionals all the tools they need to fight and win this war. Today, especially, we remember the brave Americans who have given their lives in the service of our nation and the nearly 3,000 men, women and children who lost their lives on 9/11. Justice has been done.

Sincerely,

The Keep America Safe Board Of Directors

>Garrett Statement on Death of Osama bin Laden

>Garrett Statement on Death of Osama bin Laden

WASHINGTON, May 2, 2011 – Rep. Scott Garrett (R-NJ) issued the following statement today on the death of 9/11 mastermind Osama bin Laden:

“I commend President Obama for his steadfastness and leadership in seeing this monster brought to justice, and I congratulate the United States military and our intelligence agencies for a successful mission. While justice has been served to Osama bin Laden, we still live in a very dangerous world. We have to remain vigilant in our efforts to bring justice to all other terrorists across the globe that seek to destroy our country and our way of life.

“Today, as we rejoice in this victory for freedom and democracy, let us not forget the victims of 9/11 and the families left behind. My thoughts and prayers are with all of the families and friends that lost loved ones on 9/11. While the death of Osama bin Laden can never replace their loss, I hope this act of justice helps fill the void and mend their broken hearts.”

>Cross Walk Safety : This specific location is all because of excessive speed

>Cross Walk Safety : This specific location is all because of excessive speed

The cross walks near whole foods are a big problem because the speeds coming up Godwin Ave are so excessive and there is a bend in the road. So you can look both ways and it will be totally clear – halfway across a car comes around the bend at 55mph and you don’t have a chance at those speeds. Really it is like trying to cross a highway because of the blind curve and the excessive speeds.

In the last year there have been two cars that I know of completely flip over because of out of control speed and a few weeks ago a car lost control and hit a telephone pole and broke it in half, the car was totalled. This specific location is all because of excessive speed. And the police do not sit on this bend – they sit at citizens park and at the Mobile gas station. The cars leave the light at lincoln and speed until the reach the light at Wisley Square.

This location has many accidents and it is all speed related, it is also has heavy foot traffic because of the schools, train, whole foods, shops and restaurants. This specific location needs real speed control and real traffic calming put in place to deter the speeds because the recommended speed is 20 mph and the average speed is between 45 and 55 mph. Just generalizing and saying watch out does not apply in this specific situation.

>Village Council Elections : Why is Steve Wellinghorst seemingly The Anointed One?

>Village Council Elections : Why is Steve Wellinghorst seemingly The Anointed One?

Why are people trying to get Oliver Train to resign from the race? Why is Steve Wellinghorst seemingly The Anointed One? What ideas has he had besides opposition to Valley and a vague promise of fiscal responsibility? Train, by contrast, has put forth far more specific ideas about how to improve the Village. He has worked far harder to earn my vote than Mr. Wellinghorst.

This isn’t a high school election, where we vote for the handsome, popular kid for class President. Our tax dollars are at stake. We should be voting for the guy that will spend them the most wisely, and have the best ideas to improve Ridgewood.
