Poll: Sharp erosion in Clinton support among Democratic women

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Hillary Rodham Clinton is suffering rapid erosion of support among Democratic women — the voters long presumed to be her bedrock in her bid to become the nation’s first female president.

The numbers in a new Washington Post-ABC News poll are an alarm siren: Where 71 percent of Democratic-leaning female voters said in July that they expected to vote for Clinton, only 42 percent do now, a drop of 29 percentage points in eight weeks.

The period since the last survey coincides with the news that the FBI is looking into the security of e-mails sent over a private server Clinton used when she was secretary of state, as well as an intense media focus on her response to the controversy. The episode has raised questions about her judgment and revived memories of the scandals that plagued the presidency of her husband, Bill Clinton, in the 1990s.

‘We can’t take any more!’ Germany stops ALL trains from Austria as they reintroduce border controls and temporarily suspend Schengen Agreement

Germany has become the destination for many desperate Syrian refugees
Munich, which has been the main entry point, is now at breaking point
Germany has announced a reintroduction of ‘temporary’ border controls
The move marks a dramatic shift back from Europe’s Schengen agreement
Europe is struggling to deal with the huge influx of people fleeing violence

Germany’s open-door policy to refugees appeared to be unravelling tonight following the country’s reinstatement of border controls to curb the overwhelming influx of migrants.

Europe’s top economy halted all trains from Austria and, in an historic move, temporarily suspended the open borders Schengen agreement in response to the arrival of tens of thousands of Syrian refugees in recent days.

The decision marks a dramatic shift away from the current abolishment of passport checks throughout Europe’s Schengen zone.

Eastern Europe says NO to Refugees

Hungary: Migrants should go back ‘where they came from’; threatens mass arrests
Gregg Zoroya, USA TODAY2:17 p.m. EDT September 12, 2015

Hungary’s hard-line prime minister highlighted stark divisions in Europe over a growing migrant crisis, telling a German newspaper in an interview published Saturday that refugees entering the continent should go back “where they came from.”

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, in an interview with Bild, argued that rather than opening borders to a flood of largely Syrian refugees, the European Union should create a $3.4 billion aid package for Turkey and Middle East countries to improve refugee camps that are the first stop for families fleeing war.

Thousands flock to anti-migrant demos in E.Europe
September 12, 2015
By: Khan Zahid

BRATISLAVA: Thousands of people joined anti-migrant protests in three eastern European capitals on Saturday after leaders from the Czech Republic, Poland and Slovakia opposed an EU scheme to fix refugee quotas.

In the Polish capital Warsaw, nearly 5,000 people, many chanting anti-Islamic slogans, marched through the city, an AFP correspondent said. “Islam will be the death of Europe”, one of the banners said.

Organisers claimed the demonstration drew 10,000 people but police refused to confirm the figure.

Eastern Bloc’s Resistance to Refugees Highlights Europe’s Cultural and Political Divisions
By RICK LYMANSEPT. 12, 2015

WARSAW — Even though the former Communist countries of Central and Eastern Europe have been asked to accept just a fraction of the refugees that Germany and other nations are taking, their fierce resistance now stands as the main impediment to a unified European response to the crisis.

Poland’s new president, Andrzej Duda, has complained about “dictates” from the European Union to accept migrants flowing onto the Continent from the Middle East and Africa.

Slovakia’s prime minister, Robert Fico, says his country will accept only Christian refugees as it would be “false solidarity” to force Muslims to settle in a country without a single mosque. Viktor Orban, Hungary’s hard-line prime minister, calls the influx a “rebellion by illegal migrants” and pledges a new crackdown this week.

The discord has further unsettled a union already shaky from struggles over the euro and the Greek financial crisis and now facing a historic influx of people attracted by Europe’s relative peace and prosperity.

The woman was pronounced dead at 8:37 a.m.

Nelson called it a “confirmed fatality,” and said that only a medical examiner could determine the incident was a suicide.

“As to what occurred, we don’t know,” Nelson said. “She was on the tracks, we don’t know how she got there.”

Intelligence Community Accuse Obama Admin. of Cooking ISIS Intel

centcom-map

by Debra Heine
September 9, 2015 – 11:10 pm

The New York Times reported last month that an IG investigation was looking into complaints that military officials skewed intelligence assessments about the United States-led campaign in Iraq against the Islamic State to provide a false, Obama-approved narrative about their progress.

Now, in an exclusive for the Daily Beast, Shane Harris and Nancy A. Youssef report on a “revolt” by more than 50 intelligence analysts who are sick and tired of seeing their honest assessments about the campaign turned into unrealistic “happy talk.”

The spooks working out of the U.S. military’s Central Command “have formally complained that their reports on ISIS and al Qaeda’s branch in Syria were being inappropriately altered by senior officials,” the Daily Beast reports.

Some of those CENTCOM analysts described the sizeable cadre of protesting analysts as a “revolt” by intelligence professionals who are paid to give their honest assessment, based on facts, and not to be influenced by national-level policy. The analysts have accused senior-level leaders, including the director of intelligence and his deputy in CENTCOM, of changing their analyses to be more in line with the Obama administration’s public contention that the fight against ISIS and al Qaeda is making progress. The analysts take a more pessimistic view about how military efforts to destroy the groups are going.

The large number of analysts who complained to the Pentagon inspector general hasn’t been previously reported. Some of them are assigned to work at CENTCOM, the U.S. military’s command for the Middle East and Central Asia, but are officially employed by the Defense Intelligence Agency.

The complaints allege that in some cases key elements of intelligence reports were removed, resulting in a document that didn’t accurately capture the analysts’ conclusions, sources familiar with the protest said. But the complaint also goes beyond alleged altering of reports and accuses some senior leaders at CENTCOM of creating an unprofessional work environment. One person who knows the contents of the written complaint sent to the inspector general said it used the word “Stalinist” to describe the tone set by officials overseeing CENTCOM’s analysis.

Many described a climate in which analysts felt they could not give a candid assessment of the situation in Iraq and Syria. Some felt it was a product of commanders protecting their career advancement by putting the best spin on the war.

Some reports crafted by the analysts that were too negative in their assessment of the war were sent back the chain of the command or not shared up the chain, several analysts said. Still others, feeling the climate around them, self-censored so their reports affirmed already-held beliefs.

Rep. Scott Garrett : With Iran Nuke Deal “the Obama Administration failed the American people, it failed our allies around the world, and it failed future generations”

scottgarrett2_theridgewoodblog

September 11,2015

the staff of the Ridgewood blog

Ridgewoood NJ,Rep Scott Garrett R-NJ 5th District ,voted NO on the Obama Admin , seemingly suicidal Nuke Deal with Iran .Garret made his strongest statement yet  on the Administrations latest foreign Policy fiasco .

The somberness of the 14th anniversary of 9/11 ,Garrett commented that , “We will never forget those we lost. We will never forget those who ran into danger to help their fellow man and woman. We will never forget that evil forces still conspire to destroy our very way of life. And we will never forget those who sacrifice everything to defend our freedom.”

Garrett adressed the Iran Nuke deal vote specifically saying , “Today I voted against this terrible Iran nuclear deal. If enacted, this deal will give Iran sanctions relief and a path to obtaining a nuclear weapon while jeopardizing the security of the United States and its allies. It will allow Iran to generate weapons grade nuclear materials in 15 years, possess intercontinental ballistic missiles in eight years, and receive a multi-billion dollar financial windfall in sanctions relief to fund their nuclear program.

As a member of the special committee that implemented sanctions on Iran, I understand the severity of this situation. The Obama Administration failed the American people, it failed our allies around the world, and it failed future generations that will live in a more dangerous world with a nuclear-armed Iran. This fight isn’t over. I will continue to do everything in my power to keep nuclear weapons out of the hands of known terrorists”

Ridgewood Council to hold hearing on multifamily housing

SEPTEMBER 10, 2015    LAST UPDATED: THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 10, 2015, 9:35 PM

THE RIDGEWOOD NEWS

The subject of multifamily housing will take center stage at the Village Council’s public meeting on Sept. 16 as the governing body prepares to take action on the related zoning ordinances and hear a last round of comments from the public.

After years of public work sessions and hearings to allow testimony by attorneys and experts for three developers and comments from residents who expressed either satisfaction or concern, the Ridgewood Planning Board ultimately voted to pass the new amendments. They were then sent to the council in the form of an ordinance.

If the ordinances are approved next week, several parcels of land in the village’s Central Business District will be rezoned for housing with densities as high as 35 units per acre and building heights of 50 feet. The original amendments allowed for developments of up to 50 units per acre, but were scaled back due to the concerns of board members and residents.

Four parcels of land are currently slated for re-zoning: The old Brogan Cadillac site on South Broad Street, which would be designated as an AH-2 zone for purely residential development; the old Sealfons building on North Maple Avenue between East Ridgewood Avenue and Franklin Avenue and the Ken Smith property on Franklin Avenue, which would be put in the B-3-R zone for residential or mixed-use development; the C-R zone, a small lot on Chestnut Street for residential or mixed-used development; and the C-zone, which wraps around the C-R zone and is intended only for commercial uses.

Big-Name Plan B’s for Democrats Concerned About Hillary Clinton

democrats 2016 plan b

By PATRICK HEALYSEPT. 9, 2015

If Hillary Rodham Clinton’s new apology for her private email server fails to reassure jittery supporters, it could amplify the chatter among some Democrats who have been casting about for a potential white knight to rescue the party from a beleaguered Clinton candidacy.

Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr., Secretary of State John Kerry, SenatorElizabeth Warren, former Vice President Al Gore: Each has been discussed among party officials in recent weeks as an alternative to Mrs. Clinton if she does not regain her once-dominant standing in the 2016 presidential field and instead remains mired in the long-running email controversy, with its attendant investigations.

On Monday, Mr. Biden, who has spoken publicly of pondering a run, looked very much like a candidate at a Pittsburgh union gathering and Labor Day parade. And some Democrats were intrigued by word that Mr. Kerry, the 2004 Democratic nominee, had met recently in Nantucket, Mass., with David M. Rubenstein, a billionaire co-founder of the Carlyle Group — and the sort of Washington wise man Mr. Kerry might consult if he were mulling another run. (Friends say he isn’t.)

Who Is Running for President?

It is not just Mrs. Clinton’s weakness in the polls that has generated talk of other alternatives, but also the strength of Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont, who is routinely drawing huge crowds at campaign events. That has been disconcerting to Democratic officials who believe that Mr. Sanders, a socialist, is so liberal that his presence at the top of the party’s ticket in 2016 would be disastrous.

“If party leaders see a scenario next winter where Bernie Sanders has a real chance at the Democratic nomination, I think there’s no question that leaders will reach out to Vice President Biden or Secretary of State Kerry or even Gore about entering the primaries,” said Garnet F. Coleman, a Texas state lawmaker and Democratic national committeeman.

Trump: Iran deal makes us ‘look like fools’

-donald-trump-candidacy-speech-thridgewoodblog

By Mark Hensch

Donald Trump rallied opponents of the Iran nuclear deal at the Capitol on Wednesday, slamming President Obama’s diplomatic pact as an embarrassment to the country.

“We are led by very, very stupid people,” Trump told a crowd gathered on the Capitol’s west lawn.

“We are going to get nothing,” he said of the nuclear deal. “They rip us off, they take our money, they make us look like fools.”

Trump, who has become the front-runner in the GOP race for the White House, said the United States bungled the negotiations over the Iran pact, which will lift sanctions on Iran’s economy in exchange for limits on its nuclear program.

“Never, ever in my lifetime have I seen a transaction negotiated so incompetently,” he said.

“We will have so much winning if I get elected you’ll get bored of winning,” the business mogul added. “We are going to start winning big league.”

Trump wasn’t the only presidential contender on hand for the rally. He was preceded onstage by Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), a rival for the 2016 nomination who has at times defended Trump from criticism.

The vacant space at the Ridgewood Public Library café was filled last week, with Flo’s Nook taking up residence.

Flo’s Nook, an offshoot of Flo’s Depot (a coffee shop at the Ridgewood train station) and Flo’s Market (a store in Hawthorne), will offer a variety of food and drinks for sale.

“We offer it all,” said Barbara Agnello, one of the owners. “The beauty is that [it is] an extension of our store. I’m going to bring sandwiches and salads; I’m going to bring a hot meal each day.

“But the beauty is that anybody can go online to (our website) and order out special lunch from our store if they wanted a larger menu, and we can have it delivered here by noon if the order is made by 10 a.m.,” she said.

Flo’s Nook will also offer a place for library patrons to read the materials they borrow.

Trump calls on CNN to donate debate money to veterans

Trump_andersoncooper_theridgwoodblog

By Neetzan Zimmerman

Donald Trump is putting his mouth where CNN’s money is, demanding that all profits from the broadcast of next week’s GOP debate go to veterans.

Following news that CNN has been capitalizing on Trump-mania by raising ad prices for the Sept. 16 debate to 40 times their normal rate, the GOP front-runner sent a letter to the news network’s president, Jeff Zucker, to insist that he share the wealth.

“While I refuse to brag,” Trump writes, “this tremendous increase in viewer interest and advertising is due 100% to ‘Donald J. Trump.’”

Given the record-setting audience for the first GOP debate on Fox News, Trump says it stands to reason that CNN’s audience “will be even larger.”

Murdoch: Biden ‘very likely’ wins Dem nomination and will be hard to beat

biden_0

By Mark Hensch

Media mogul Rupert Murdoch likes Vice President Joe Biden’s chances if he runs for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2016.

“Looks like Biden already running,” Murdoch tweeted late Monday. “Very likely he wins nomination and be hard to beat.”

Murdoch’s comments come as Biden reportedly nears a decision on a third Oval Office bid.

During a Labor Day speech in Pittsburgh on Monday, Biden heard chants of, “Run, Joe, run.”

“I gotta talk to my wife about that,” the vice president told one supporter.

Beau Biden, Joe Biden’s son, died in May after a prolonged battle with brain cancer and reportedly urged his father to make a final attempt at becoming president.

Joe Biden has since repeatedly argued that he is uncertain if he has the emotional energy for seeking the nation’s highest office.

ISIS killers riding wave of western sympathy smuggling bombers to Europe in migrant boats

ISIS_theridgewoodblog

ISLAMIC State terrorists are taking advantage of the waves of western sympathy towards would-be asylum seekers and sending trained operatives to Europe hidden among migrants crossing the Mediterranean in boats.

By JAKE BURMAN
PUBLISHED: 06:03, Mon, Sep 7, 2015 | UPDATED: 12:13, Mon, Sep 7, 2015

A sea-change in Britain and Europe’s approach to dealing with asylum seekers from north Africa and the Middle east was triggered last week when pictures of the body of three-year-old Aylan Kurdi washed up on a Mediterranean beach emerged.

Celebrities, politicians and even the Pope have been queuing-up to state they wish to take migrant families into their homes.

David Cameron was today expected to announce that the UK will take 10,000 more migrants – despite previously arguing taking in refugees would encourage more people to risk the hazardous sea crossing to Europe.

But EU prosecutor Michele Coninsx, warned the charitable aims came with a potentially deadly caveat – that Isis terrorists and bombers are continuously being smuggled across the Med – hidden among migrants.

Coninsx, head of the EU’s judicial co-operation agency Eurojust, said she received the intelligence as part of the agency’s fight against illegal immigration, terrorism and cybercrime.

According to the prosecutor, ISIS and similar terror groups are also using money from people-trafficking to fund terrorism.

She said: “It is an alarming situation because we see obviously that these smugglings are meant to sometimes finance terrorism and that these smugglings are used sometimes to have and ensure infiltrations by members of the Islamic State.”
