Village Crews Started Collecting Leaves Placed Along the Curbline in the Street Beginning October 22,2018

Ridgewood NJ, Village crews started collecting leaves placed along the curbline in the street beginning October 22,2018 and will continue through December 21st weather permitting. Designated yard waste area’s A-D will be used for leaf removal purposes .

The town has been accused of screwing up the leaf pick up across the board over the last 5 years, but there has been progress made the last couple of years in expediting the process . The Village can not control the weather  and many remember , “Christmas trees frozen into huge uncollected leaf piles. Like mountains on the moon..wet leaves frozen into the streets”

Armored Car Jumps Curb and Takes Out Utility Pole in Ridgewood

Ridgewood NJ, An armored vehicle loaded with currency clipped two (2) utility poles before jumping a curb and crashing into a tree on Saturday afternoon, 11/03, in Ridgewood. The incident occurred in the 300 block of South Maple Avenue, Ridgewood, near Prospect Street. Ridgewood Police, Ridgewood Fire Department, and Ridgewood EMS rushed to aid the vehicle’s driver, who was transported by ambulance to The Valley Hospital with a non life threatening leg injury. Several armed security guards and uniformed police officers stood by as currency was transferred from the heavily damaged vehicle to another armored unit owned by the same company. A heavy duty wrecker removed the demolished vehicle from the scene. Traffic was detoured away from the crash site until the scene was cleared. Police at the scene did not comment as to whether any summonses were/would be issued in connection with the crash.

Ridgewood Symphony Orchestra to Perform Appalachian Spring and Rachmaninoff Piano Concerto

Ridgewood NJ, Piano prodigy Drew Petersen will be featured with the Ridgewood Symphony Orchestra on Friday November 16th at 8:00 p.m., at the West Side Presbyterian Church in Ridgewood. An Oradell native, Drew most recently won the American Pianists Award following a rigorous 13-month competition. He is also a prizewinner in the Leeds International Piano Competition and has performed solo and concerto recitals in both Europe and the United States.

“Porch Pirates ” hit home on North Van Dien in Ridgewood

Ridgewood NJ, the Ridgewood Police report that on October 25th, a North Van Dien Avenue resident responded to Ridgewood Police headquarters to report the theft of delivered packages. The victim reported three delivered packages were stolen between August 2018 and October 2018 after being delivered to her residence by USPS. The packages were valued at approximately $170. Its that time of the year again people need to be careful.

Ridgewood Fire Department use the “Jaws of Life” to Extricate the Driver from Friday Evening Crash

Ridgewood NJ, Ridgewood Fire Department personnel used the “Jaws of Life” to extricate the driver of a dark colored SUV from her vehicle following a Friday evening, 11/02 crash at the intersection of South Monroe Street and West Ridgewood Avenue, Ridgewood. Ridgewood EMS transported two (2) victims of the crash to The Valley Hospital. All injuries were reported to be non life threatening in nature. Ridgewood PD also responded. At least one (1) vehicle was removed from the scene by a tow truck.

Morgan Stanley Forecasts that Tax Refunds in 2019 will be about 26% Greater than 2018

Ridgewood NJ, Taxes will be lower for most people this year because of the GOP’s tax bill passed last December. According to Morgan Stanley, Americans have been overwithholding significantly, and the investment bank forecasts that refunds in 2019 will be about 26% greater than 2018. In raw dollars, this is $62 billion more than last year’s $235 billion in refunds that were issued this year, as of April.

According to Morgan Stanley Americans have not adjusted their tax withholdings and still withhold too much on their payroll taxes.All the extra money in Americans’ pockets will likely boost savings accounts and the sales of big-ticket items next February and March, Morgan Stanley says.In 2018, according to survey numbers cited by Morgan Stanley, 65% of consumers planned to save their refunds, 35% said they’d pay down debt, and just 5% said they’d make a major purchase .

The Village has Begun Enforcing “No left Turns” Into and Out of the Starbucks

Ridgewood NJ, The Village has begun enforcing a recently passed local ordinance that prohibits left turns into and out of the Starbucks drive through restaurant on Franklin Avenue. Traffic cones are now in place that effectively block left turns out of the facility. No word yet as to whether more cones will be deployed to prevent left turns into the facility.

Trenton NJ, Governor Phil Murphy is facing continued questions over his hiring practices after a pair of former campaign workers who joined his administration recently left amid scandal, and a third was suspended for using raw language on social media. The BLOG would like to know when Murphy will wise up and get rid of local philanderer Paul Aronsohn, who was hired by our governor to be the Ombudsman for individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities and their families.

Call of Suspicious Activity Results in Arrests on Cliff Street in Ridgewood

Ridgewood NJ, the Ridgewood Police report that patrol units were dispatched to Cliff Street on October 26th for a report of suspicious activity in progress. Patrol units located a person matching the description provided by the caller in the area and upon further investigation a second involved male party was located. As a result of the investigation, a 28 year-old male from Mahwah, N.J. was arrested and charged with hindering apprehension by providing false information, possession of a controlled dangerous substance, and drug paraphernalia. The second male, a 28 year-old from Jefferson, N.Y. was also arrested and charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance and drug paraphernalia. Both arrestees were transported to Ridgewood Police headquarters, served with criminal complaints and then transported to the Bergen County Jail.

Ridgewood Parks & Recreation Fly Fishing 101

Ridgewood NJ, Ridgewood Parks & Recreation Fly Fishing 101 class finished up on Tuesday, but not before catching a few!! The middle school students under the instruction of Nicole March and with help from some volunteers from East Jersey Trout Unlimited, caught 2 sunnies and a rainbow trout (catch and release). The six week program taught the basics of casting, tying knots, learning parts of the stream and what bugs the fish like to eat. The next Fly Fishing 101 class will be taught in the spring and a few fly tying workshops will be hosted over the winter. Space is limited.

What part of this equation don’t you understand?
Employees are not parking any further away. The empty spots are a direct result of the increased meter rates. any merchant in town can tell you how bad the numbers are of late. We understand that the social gadflys are aghast at the sight of a parking garage and the above article tries to float the issue without directly addressing it. Cute. Boneheaded move for the village as usual as they simply drove all the customers away. Lots of options out there and Downtown Ridgewood is not one of them.

The merchants I’ve spoken with in the Broad Street area have said business is off since the kiosks came in. In my experience, I see drivers u-turning all over the place into and out of spots – in front of cops, to boot. Safety has dropped below meter revenue & leaf fines in priorities of the VH and police department.

What is needed are fewer cars more public transportation. NO parking garage here no tearing down of islands at train station. Being satisfied with the room there is without mutilating the town design and encouraging more cars. Stores get enough business the way it is now. Making space for more cars on these narrow streets is wrong from a safety angle, an aesthetic angle, a health pollution angle, a comfort angle meaning more crowding. When town gets built up it will be another city like Hackensack.
