Ridgewood NJ, three outstanding members of our Civic Youth Corps (CYC) were honored with the President’s Volunteer Service Award at the Village Council Public Meeting. Congratulations to Ryan Shintani, who earned a Gold Medal for his remarkable 140 hours of service, and to Jake Chudy and Qaanit Syed, who received Bronze Medals for their impressive 58 and 51 hours of service, respectively.

The Civic Youth Corps meets once a month at Village Hall for a casual gathering that includes a snack, a meeting, and a 30-45 minute guest presentation. These presentations lead to engaging discussions with knowledgeable leaders from local government and non-profit organizations. The relaxed setting encourages meaningful conversations that inspire our youth to develop leadership skills while gaining a deeper understanding of the roles of local government and community organizations.

What They Stand For:

The CYC’s mission is simple: to inspire youth through service and leadership. Their goals are to:

  1. Engage youth in challenging, rewarding, and educational service projects.
  2. Serve the unmet needs of Ridgewood residents and help facilitate events that bring the community together.
  3. Encourage leadership by offering both ongoing and episodic volunteer opportunities for those seeking to make a real impact.

They believe that by fostering a sense of civic responsibility, our youth can make a lasting difference in their community while growing into confident leaders.

If you or someone you know is interested in learning more about the Civic Youth Corps or would like to get involved, feel free to reach out to us at civicyouthcorps@gmail.com or contact Deanna at Ridgewood Parks & Rec at 201-670-5560.
